I don't want to start a discussion

I'm just putting this here for anyone interested in seeing the difference so their messages are clearer to read.

Your - Belongs to you

Example: Your gear

You're - Short for 'You are'

Example: You're right

There - Referring to a place

Example: Lets go over there

Their - Possession

Example: Don't touch their RIF

They're - Short for 'They are'

Example: They're going to be surrounded

Hope this helps clear things up a bit.

Are you sure that you're not worried that  they’re touching your new gear with their sticky fingers over there?

As a non native english speaker (more like I can read and write okay, but when I open my mouth I sound like a demented australopithecus), it has always puzzled me how easily y'all can fuck those up....

Simple - you just need to not care

It is entirely the fault of the mobile phone generation and text speak becoming the predominant form of communication.  Plus, noone writes anything physically anymore....

Didn't even include its vs it's smh
Go ahead ?

That's what leads to failure.

Partially in the early days, but autocorrect is built into most phones now so it should actually be easier

What pisses me off more then general grammatical errors is when people use shortned text speak from the days before full keyboards! They must be fecking demented if they think u an aceptable spelling of you?!?!?!?!?

While we're at it I'd like to add sight and site
Yeah add it

In the early days it was necessary.  Remember when we only had numbers on the keyboard so we had to press several times to get different letters ?

My old mother was taught text speak by my niece, and now has a smart phone and multiple ipads

You don’t want to try and read an 80 year olds text speak that is sent via email, text message, facebook messenger and WhatsApp - all in one fractured conversation across numerous apps

Yeah add it

I’ll see your Nokia 3210 numeric keypad and raise you the Nokia 7280 ‘lipstick’ wheel pad

I was the master of quick spin typing, aided by standard messages (yes, no, on my way etc) but also skilled in ‘spin & click’ across the alphabet to make real English words

However my mates did take great joy in seeing how long it would take a back & forth text conversion to change to me phoning them back

Wow, I never saw one of those. Takes minimalism to the extreme ?

You might not be old

Or you weren’t cool enough / as much as a mug

(They didn’t last long, just a tiny blip in the ‘make things smaller’ era just before going to the ‘make things bigger’ era)

….. and the customer base was probably meant to be to fit in girly tiny ‘night out’ bags as opposed to overgrown boys pretending they had a spy gadget phone.

I saw a thing a while ago that attributed phones screens getter bigger to when we realised that we could watch porn on them. ?

Let me show you the Siemens SL55View attachment 147171

That wouldn't surprise me. Nobody wants to be trying to work out what they're watching while wrestling with the one eyed trouser snake

In the before times it was because there was a character limit on text messages.
