VFC GBB M249

Watched video,   Added M249 to my Xmas list.

But I think it was on there already ;)  I think I have a weird fetish for bipods on guns... formed all the way back when I was in the cadets and had Bren guns in the school armoury.  And when I got to fire  the Bren and a GPMG on the range.   I did buy a gripod and tried that for a day but it's not really the same thing, is it?

And I have had an email this morning...

My 249 is on the way from Taiwan.

UPS estimates delivery on Friday,  but I can almost guarantee It will be delayed in customs

How you doing over there grandad..

XD

actual Brens or LSW's?

Actual Brens.  This was back at the end of the 80 's.    I think we had 2 or 3 but they never really got touched and maybe they weren't there for long.  Certainly never fired, and I can only remember one training session (field strip) with a Bren.

It was a big armoury... There were a lot of Lee Enfield no4's in .303", some of which were set up as target rifles with Parker Hale diopter sights.  We later got a number of 'proper' target rifles chambered in 7.62mm.  not sure what their designation was.

And a bunch of the Lee Enfield .22" cadet target rifles.

The full bore stuff got used at Bisley for competitions, and taken to various army camps occasionally, and we had a small bore rifle range on the school site.  Which was nice.

We had a solitary Bren in the school armoury and we got to use it occasionally.

We had a couple of .303 Bren guns in our ACF armoury back in the mid 1980’s. I remember being issued one for an exercise with 2 mags and just 20 blanks. I got a massive bollocking when during the contact I ripped the whole lot of in one burst.

Sod carrying around that lump as a teenager

I appear ot have just 'accidentally' ordered one from Airsoft world ?

Any chance you can accidentally order another and send it to me?

VFC seem to do a pretty good job of building gas guns, well, by version 2 anyway.  What else is on their horizon?

tell Me more , with more pictures and maybe a video ?
So far I've only put about one mag through it. But first impressions are very good. I plan to get the box mag for it but I'll order that from one of the the hong kong or Taiwan suppliers . Will do some tests at the weekend to see hom many bbs the stanag gas reservoir will fire before a refill. I suspect 10 or so round bursts will be optimal. Will try and get some video at the weekend.

Selection of pictures, everything has trades, even the bolt by the look of it.

Weighs alot less than you might expect, which will be down to the all Ali construction .

If you do, I hope you have better luck than I did.

As I posted in the "what have you bought" thread earlier in the week, I recieved my m249 and gas box mag from SWIT,  only to find that some incompetent customs inspector has snapped the front sight off the gun and used a screwdriver to break off the end plate of the box mag, rather than just releasing the securing tabs

I was hoping to run mine this weekend,  but I will be unable to do so as I may be required to ship it back to SWIT as part of their claims process.

It's bloody awesome ! not playing today but have been up to the site to try the 249 on the range. I've not done any scientific testing of gas fill to bb count with the supplied stanag , but I didn't seem to be refilling much . I suspect the box mag (on its way) might last a game if the gun is used in a sensible way. I was firing bursts and it just kept going. Bot over 150 BB's into a mag , dont think I'd bother trying to ram the max 175 in tbh. Range and accuracy were on a par with anything else that was being run up there today ( it is a game day I'm just not playing) . Actually the acuracy surprised me tbh. Tried it on .25's but may well go up to my usual GBBR weight of .30 will see how many BBs I am going through. Chrono'd it as well. Using green gas it was right on the edge of limits so won't be using red in it.  I can see taking 4 BB mags and a bottle of gas into a game will give me plenty of ammo for my play style. And god the sound of it ! it'll keep heads down just from that alone ?

Did a bit of a proper trial with gas capacity. Fully charged stanag and I got 200 rounds out of it which I'm impressed with.  Lots of short bursts , did the first 100 then gave the mag time to warm up a bit. Then the second 100 . Nothing left in the gas mag at the end but it did it. Probably 150 reliably in a game . The second 100 were tracers , that was a scream !
