The Healthy Airsofters Thread

It sort hurt a little on the out touching it sometimes but asI have not been running it feels pretty good other then the cracking/crunching noise my knee makes lol

I am seeing a specialist on the 7th as my request because I need to be 100% sure what going on.


Mine only hurts when I'm going up stairs, getting up/sitting down that kind of stuff. Basically when the joint takes a lot of load. Years of mountain biking basically made the outer muscles in the thing develop more than the inner muscle so the kneecap gets pulled outwards by the tendons and it stops running in the little groove in your knee joint. Strengthening exercises for the inner thigh muscle pull it back in line and it stops hurting. The exercises suck balls but worth it.

I only takes pills if really need to as I given tramdol to take 4 times a day by my last doctor for over year and I went cold turkey on that shit....worst time of my life anything else is nothing compared to that week of hell.

I can play airsoft fine with little dashes but not full running I have been holding back.

I want get running but fear I will F my knee up more.
The noises ain't a good sign, might need to get the joint flushed out surgically & knock running on the head, for fitness at least.

Yeah tramadols a mofo, they left me on it for nearly 3 years, like you, bout 6 years ago I forced myself to go cold turkey, as the weaning me off crap that the doc recommended just made things worse, so stocked up on reading material & sweet stuff & told the wife to pretty much ignore me for the next week as I'm prob gonna be a miserable cnut, typically her reply was "what, more than usual ?"

Knee surgeon recently tried to give me a script for more tramadol FFS, I politely told him to stick em up his chuffer ?

I've had to pack running in.   I miss it so much that I dream of running.  Arthritis sucks.  However, there are many ways to do cardio though.  Hi-rep free weights and bag work are good for me.  Find what works for you.

My knee is fucked up, but supports and topical opioids work well for airsoft/hiking/combat sports.  Full time opioids are bloody awful.   Don't give up or get down hearted.  There is nothing bad or good but the mind says so.

You don't need to run to be healthy. I've never been a runner, since my build is not conducive to being good at it, or it being particularly healthy for me to do too much. When I was a teenager in my school rugby team, I had to stop because I got shin splints because even when I'm "slim" I'm still pretty chonk. I could probably do running if I bought some expensive, fancypants trainers, but I hate running, so I would likely not do it and it'd be a wasted investment. I hate exercising for the sake of doing exercise, so the only running I do is during airsoft weekends. I've found that doing things that don't feel like I'm exercising are the best, so for me that's martial arts, airsoft and cycling to get from point A to point B; it's rare I go for a cycle just to go for a cycle. I've forced myself to hit the gym too, which is the only "workout" that I do, but I don't do cardio (since I do cardio when I cycle to and from the gym) and just focus on strength training, as it's what I enjoy. 

Also, swimming is both a full-body workout and it's low impact on your joints; it's like a super-workout. Highly recommend it, plus it's a skill that is worryingly lacking in this day and age; loads of people I know are absolutely terrible at it, and I live in a coastal town where the beaches are packed as soon as temperatures reach around 25 celcius! That's a free swimming pool right there, so how people are so bad I will never know :D  

 
Yeah I going to cycle more as my main thing and do basic exercises at home with few weights.

I seen the doctor today he said my knee is the shape of someone who 60+ I am only 36 lol.

The gap in my knee I have pretty big for my age and now I need MRI next to get a better look what going on :(

He said no running at all for now and maybe never.

Wanna lose weight without a ton of exercise which you don't know if it will work for you?

Cut the sugar from your diet by a lot and eat as less as possible carbohydrates. Then your body will start processing the fat it already has on storage.

Please read that I did not say do not exercise. Everyone has their limits when it comes to that. What I do is get myself up to some huffing and puffing, that is pushing it a bit.

Oh yes definitely, as they say you can't out exercise a bad diet ??

I was drinking 15 cups of coffee a day with x3 sugar and milk, stopped all caffee now but just need to stop getting hungry when watching films ??

I did keto for a total of about 10 months over the last year and a half, but it's super not for me. One of the side effects I got was heart palpitations if I was ever dehydrated, and I can tell you that waking up in the middle of the night feeling like you're dying is really not a fun experience.

I still don't have much sugar, because I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I eat just a normal calorie restrictive diet, but not too restrictive since I'm also trying to put on some muscle. For me, being a total foodie,. one of the reasons I do so much exercise is because I also like eating lots

 


QFT, the only real difference is which works best for you, and that you can stick to.

The key point is that if you're not happy with your weight and physique, you have to try something different.  You can't wish the lard away.  So just work through the list, and don't get religious about it: I was running a fever the past few days, and fed the "energy, naow!" cravings with beans on multigrain toast, and wholemeal pitta-bread pizza.  Mmm, forbidden carbs.

I'd hope that we can all agree that refined sugars are about as necessary and healthy as crack, and should be the first thing dropped.

So I ran the Southampton Marathon on Sunday. Took me 4 hours and 25 minutes which I'm really pleased with considering summer decided to turn up and it was 25 degrees. Legs have just about stopped aching now.

Was it a good experience? yes

Am I doing another? hell no
