Opening and closing your gearbox

Well the first time I opened my gearbox went ok until I needed to close it again. It took ages to get the thing shut, so now I ask for the best tips on opening and closing a gearbox.

It gets easier the more times you do it. What type of gearbox do you have?? If you dont know which version then what gun is it?

Version 2 gearbox from a cm18 combat machine. I just wanted generic advice really because the one time I dig it it was a pain in the arse to put back

Is there anything specific? Or is it just getting the other side of the case on??

Literally just taking the case off and putting it back on. I may have to replace some parts but I made a thread about it. I just wanted to make it go smoother that last time because I am more prepared for it.

Well make sure the piston is forward and the gear that moves it is correctly placed. The trigger spring is in properly. Then when putting the other half on use a small screw driver to push the tops of the gears into place from the outside.

Ok thanks for that I guess that will make closing it easier than last time. How do I make sure that the spring is under the least amount of tension when I open it?

Stick a small screw driver into the back of the spring guide and use it to keep the spring in place while you open or close it.

You might also find it useful to buy a couple of neodinium magnets off eBay - the ones that are about the size of a 2p piece. Use those behind the gearbox to help hold the gears in place while you close it

I tried the screwdriver thing but wasn't expecting so much tension, I'll be more prepared this time . I hadn't thought of the magnet thing as I didn't know the gears could actually slip out if place.

Yer best to have a screwdriver in the back. I place the front bit (nozzle end) on first then the back, give the spring guide a small push forward for it to slot in easier. Then play with gears and the trigger.
