I thought dry firing an AEG isn't a good idea as it can damage the gearbox casing. Something to do with the BB slowing down how quickly the air leaves the cylinder and so slowing the piston so it doesn't hit the end of the cylinder so hard
Ehhh... The BB will at best cushion it minimally. E&C gearbox shells are pretty decent in terms of build quality, it's unlikely a few hundred rounds of dry firing will cause any fracturing or cracks.
The easiest and most sure set way would be to just fit a new spring. It's a tenner, fifteen quid max.
