I wonder if what looks like an M140 spring that he had in it could have caused that?

It definitely looks like the gearbox housing failed in that way to me. Too much for it to handle.

I can’t believe I nearly bought that piece of shit for 100 when it was originally for 500 nothing was said about a cracked gearbox nada..

Bealive action army g36 With 2 gas mags one has slight leak valve in think One hpa tapped mag Feed and fires but single fire can somtime.act as auto needs looking at but gas guns ain't my specialty at all Can post lovely thing grate recoil and punch Postage possible

There might be a third mag but the seller still wants 75% of retail for a gun including a leaking mag and a failing sear causing it to sometimes fire full auto on single shot.
