I'm toying with the idea of picking up a machine gun in the future as I do more outdoors events, I'm aware that they're heavy and not everyone's cup o' tea but I'm also not sure what other cons they have, specifically I've heard internals need replacing regularly but I don't really know my way around AEG internals at all; ideally I'm looking at an mg42 but I'd consider other guns as well but I'd be grateful for more input from people that have actually used them before I take this any further.

The gear boxs are slightly stronger they dont really need anything doing to them. You will have to change your stile of play these guns are heavy and ths whole point of them is to be support and allow your team cover to move. you could blow through 6000 rounds and not get a single kill all day. They are great for base defence and ambush just dont be expecting to run arround with one.

The people that have told you that the internals need replacing regularly are lying to you. They need no more or less maintenance than any other AEG.

The main con to the MG42 will be the massive hole it leaves in your bank account!

As the proud owner of an M249 Para I say go for it! Use it as it's intended, don't try and make it into a 50RPS twatenwerfer and develop your love for laying about in the mud covering your mates!

B...b...but I only just bought an Sgr 12

I'd question whether they do the role that you're imagining any better than (e.g.) this.

Puff, spin, point.  That's all any airsoft gun does.  You can wrap another 6kg of MG-42 shaped steel around that, but the BB isn't going to know or care.

Battery life?  Run a springy cable out the back to an external battery.

If you start looking for reasons not to pay more for a 7kg MG, you'll find them.

But if it puts a grin on your face, why not?

The agm mg42 is not very strong, very easy to bend the reciever on them, had to fit reinforcing bars to mine. i'd imagine the g&g is much better although its got the price to match.

Rogerborg is right, whilst there's something nice about a massive gun, and it'll definately grab attention, it wont do anything an arp with a drum mag cant do at a tiny fraction of the weight.

If it were me i'd go for an a&k m60 or splash out on the g&g '42. There's a guy here has one on sale last i checked would be a fair bit cheaper than trying to buy new.

Feck sake man

Life too short for us all to be running around with M4 derivatives

Crack on and hose them muppets down!!!  ?

id much rather be hosed by an lmg/hmg than a micro m4 with a box mag.

you know what I mean ?

Personally, I  prefer the A&K PKM over G&G MG-42.

The A&K PKM is cheaper, lighter, decent gearbox,  large battery compartment, better magazine feeding and capacity 5000rd  more external customisation, decent gearbox and externals.

Some might say it's more about how hard and fast the piston slams in and out.

I saw the mg42 had what I'd consider a small magazine for an lmg. Only 2500 round drum

this is indeed the case, although it's still pretty decent.

the agm one does not like 11.1v though, ask me how i know......

Having owned the ARES/ASG M60 - it was brilliant, never gave me trouble and was a lot of fun. I only sold it because I'm more an urban player so it was normally left at home.

However, should I buy another support gun, I'd probably opt for the Stoner. Why? Its lovely looking, full auto AND single which means most sites play the rule 'full auto outside and single inside' which means I can use it inside and out.

I used a friends G&P ris version and albeit, was only half day use, it didnt misfeed once. range was good. weight was well balanced across the length of the rifle etc...

On the g&g the magazine capacity is it even smaller 1700rds and has a nasty habit of jamming but still trying to feed so it strips the gears and they are not cheap to replace and pain to swap mag mid-game. A bonus on the pkm is that you can still load the magazine while it still attached to the gun.
