Does a battery increase FPS?

I was at a game on Sunday and had someone claim they got an extra 50fps (roughly) he said something more to the effect of my gun was getting 280fps with a 7.4 and I put a 11.1 in there and then it got 330fps. When I argued this was not how it works I was told "You are the first person I have ever heard say that." Now that either means he has spoken to very few people about it or more worryingly the people he has spoken to about it also believe this. 

Now before we even get started. I know it does not, anyone who says it does has a flawed understanding of the inner workings of how a AEG. 

While there might be one obscure RIF out there that using battery to increase FPS (though I doubt it). I am talking about your standard AEG. If I stick a 7.4v in my cyma shitbox and get 280 fps I do not believe there is any version of events that putting a 11.1v in there will make any difference. 

Now what I did concede during our enlightening conversation is that there *may* be a slight possibility that with a higher voltage battery the piston may cycle back so fast, that when the sector gear disengages the inertia of the piston may cause it to continue back after getting to the toothless part of the gear ever so slightly due to its higher velocity adding a tiny bit of additional compression to the spring. I however don't see this being very likely and if it does it sounds like stripped gears waiting to happen.  

So, what do you guys think? If you think it does can you perhaps rationalised why this may be?

I'd agree with your thoughts on higher power battery throwing the piston a bit further back allowing it to reach a higher speed going forward but I doubt it would gain 50fps.

Another possibility may be that the higher cycle rate somehow creates a better air seal because its out of sync at slower speeds.

You are right, that is not how it works.

And no, pulling the spring faster does not add compression, at least not until you reach pull velocities faster than it can return which is physically impossible in an AEG.

Yeah, tappet plate timing is the only explanation.

Battery could be attributed to decreased FPS but only because you’ve put the wrong spec battery in and your gearbox no longer works

I agree. Higher V battery shouldn't/wouldn't add FPS in the sense of more powerful battery means more powerful shots but the theories on faster movement allowing for seal to stay in tact better or tappet timing etc are a possibility.
I'd like to see a more scientific test of this as my mind immediately says no, it's the same spring, same piston, same gears, same travel distance.

only thing i can think of is increase in ROF which has an effect on the cylinder vacuum, but would need to know more info cyclinesize/barrel etc.
Its certainly a no in 99% of builds and not something id aim for, id pick a battery and then build the gun, not the other way around.
Possibly the ROF also dislodged something in the gearbox and/or added more grease to cylinder/hop unit area which icnreased airseal but now the hop is fucked etc etc etc.

Always surprised, so i wouldn't just dismiss it as a no, but certainly raised eyebrows for sure.
I know many "experts" are about to call me an idiot, but i spent time in a shop (1year) and then 6-7months rebuilding 50 rental guns for a site, nothing in a pre-owned airsoft gun surprises me.. at all and nothing is a concrete "science" tolerences change, copies of copies change.
