Brace yourself, Winter is coming.

I switch to Pyrohide & Kevlar gloves, but since my nerve damage has got worse and the cold seriously aggravates the pain it causes, I'm planning on getting some Russian winter gloves. I also always take my DPM Goretex kecks - don't always wear 'em, but I really hate standing around in wet kecks in the cold these days. Somehow a wet top doesn't seem to bother me. As PT said it can be a blessing to help cool me down, but it doesn't seem to work the same way on my legs. I don't like the amount of noise they make when moving, but this year, if i can get fit enough to return to the field before spring, I'm going to try wearing 'em under my Russian SS Leto camouflage and maybe also my KZS as they're both nice and baggy, although the KZS may be substantial enough to hold so much water that I freeze regardless of Goretex and longjohns underneath.

I'm currently researching gas for my pistols - I have a CO2 USP NBB to fall back on, but I want to be able to skirmish my Tokarev TT33 and my new P.45 Match. Does anyone know if the likes of Guarder Powerful and Nuprol 3.0 & 4.0 blow the seals of ordinary green gas mags if the temp is warmer than the cold they are intended for? I'm thinking about room temp, say 20deg, ie gassing up before I leave / having to empty them before i return. I was thinking of starting a new thread (and i may yet) but so far it seems on topic in here. What are people's experiences of Nuprol 4.0 Black in general?

 
I wear more or less the exact same thing throughout the cold months. Although I do carry my Flecktarn parka for those sitting around games and the safe zone so I don't stand there freezing my arse off whilst listening to the safety brief. However, thanks to global warming; I might apply the sun cream and go out in my shorts

Russian winter gloves are a good option. Can definitely depend on keeping you warm(Talking about the OD mitten with the red palm area). However,if you want something more dextrous also check out the german army goretex winter gloves,yet to use them in winter since I haven't had a chance and will not have a chance to try them out this winter in Ukraine,but for Irish winter,they're perfect. If you wear one of those fabric liner gloves from a cleanroom it's even warmer.

On the gas-

I'm reading and hearing two different things- That WE Nuprol 4.0 is indeed slightly better than other 'green' gases (regular propane with silicone mixed in, and the other,that it's just regular propane and silicone mix that's jacked up marketing and price wise. If there's anyone that actually learned how gases work,what is there that you can do to make regular propane more efficient?

I can pop down to the local shop and read the 'ingredients' on it if you want :P

What I do for winter,is just throw on more layers. Long Johns,more shirts over the telnyashka, and grand. Austrian M65 jackets are fantastic for water resistance and cold winds. As long as my feet are dry,I'm fine with having soaked and cold legs since I can warm them up more easily by running about.

For boots,just warm them up and slather them with regular old kiwi polish. all those waterproofing sprays I've used on previous and current boots do shit all compared to polish. Sno-seal I've heard fucks up the breath ability of the leather. Also,cotton socks are the devil for wet and cold weather. That's all I can really offer.

 
I change... nothing. If it's raining I'll put a thin waterproof jacket (orc industries L5 PCU) over the top of my shirt, if the weather is just threatening rain then I'll stuff it in a thigh pocket.

 
I was running nuprol 3.0 in the ucap bunker. Sits at about 10 degrees all year round. Gbb pistol ran on it as well as abbey predator in the mall summer

 
what!!, ive gotta prepare for winter now, ive just done summer!...wifes gonna kill me when the wardrobe bursts!!

i'll just wear another t-shirt, my fat keeps me warm but cant see it being to much of a problem if your on the move....at least i wont sweat so much hopefully!

I do have a MTP smock i may use for the damp cold days, plenty of pocket space!.....

other occasions, might get some of those hand warmers for my pockets, few more pairs of socks, nice bobble hat to go over my helmet.....

yeah just use layers, you'll be fine!, :D

The team I'm part of spends all year outdoors but sometimes we go to indoor sites even when it's blazing sun outside

How did you find the Nuprol 3.0 compared to Abbey Predator?

At the voltages we use even a good soaking that definitely causes a short circuit does not actually prevent power flowing to the motor - i expect if you put a digital multimeter on it you'd be able to notice the difference in power delivery between wet and dry, but in use there's more difference between a fully charged battery and one that's 1/2 run down than the amount of current that can be leached by a water only short circuit and a dry AEG.

The only thing to beware of really is that water tends to carry dirt into places it might ordinarily not build up at all quickly, so it's well worth giving AEG's a good clean after a soaking. Oh yeah, and if you don't already, carry your mags upside down so that even if the 1st BB gets wet in a pouch without a flap, the rest will stay dry, because a wet BB will not behave the same as a dry one in the hop up chamber.
