AK mags fitting and locking in place but not feeding

Hi everyone, 

Hoping someone can help with an issue I am having.... 

Recently bought a cheap steel receiver and wooden furniture double bell Ak47 to add a dong handguard to (not that it will ever be used probably as I have far too many AKs already) 

The issue I have with it is I run Cyma midcaps that work with all my other different brands of AKs but in the double bell they fit and lock into place and when removed they spit out about 5 bbs (so I know they are feeding) but when I try and fire the rifle it just dry fires? 

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this as I am away at the moment and want to get it up and running on my return home!

Are you sure the Double Bell is compatible with those mags? 

Is there any difference between the DB AK mags and the Cyma ones? How deep they go into the magwell, the height of the feed tube, etc, etc

I run CYMA midcaps in a Double Bell AK without any issues.

Did you buy it new or second hand?
 

 If the former, does it feed on the supplied mag?  If not, it could be a nozzle problem or there could be an issue with the hop unit.

If it was second hand, then can you borrow a different mag to try?

It could be that the initial insertion is pushing the CYMA mags up far enough for a few BBs to feed, after which the back of the mag drops a bit because the mag catch is not holding it up far enough.

You could try lightly shimming the underside of the lip at the back of a mag to see if it makes a difference.

I run CYMA midcaps in a Double Bell AK without any issues.

Second this, I've used Cyma, E&L, Specna and LCT mags in my DB Krink with no issues at all (Minus the E&L mags not feeding the last few bb's but they suck anyway so)

As Collin said, try shimming the lip of the mag, I had to do similar with Acturus AK12 mags fitting my LCT

Outside chance, but if the other advice hasnt helped and the symptom is temporary it might be midcap syndrome.

The way to tell if if they feed ok on a partially loaded mag but not one stuffed to the brim.

A cut up peice of inner barrel with a pin can make for a de-loader to get them a dozen rounds short of stuffed.

The other possibility is ammo, before switching to geoffs i had a lot of feeding issues but the same gun with the same cyma mags with good ammo could feed reliably 100% of the time, hell if i had a penny for every "misfeeding" gun i could fix by handing the owner a magfull of the good stuff......

I am back on Friday and am going to try and experiment on the magazines (I have loads of cyma magazines that are spare?) 

I might also try and file a little from the top of the magazine catch if the magazine mods don't solve it...wish me luck

If the problem is what Austeyr and I have suggested, you don't want to shorten the magazine catch.

So I tried shimming the magazine which didn't solve it, but found that if I released the magazine catch and sat the magazine a mm lower in the magwell by hand it fed and cycled fine so I ended up solving it by literally removing half a mm from the top of the magazine catch as it was rounded whereas the Cyma magazine release catch is flat and it has solved it and the original magazine (tactical maraca hicap) still fits and feeds without issue... Although it will never be used!
