I still stand by what I said in my post - the VCRA was nothing more than a cheap and easy way to try and win favour with the more gullible members of the electorate. Rather than doing anything serious, or that required actual effort, the then government took several easy options - the result of which is a mish-mash of confusing, vague, contradictory and pointless legislation.
But that doesn't matter, because they can still say "we're fighting crime" and "We're thinking of your children"[1].
That said - I'm happy with what we have. Sure, it could be better. But it could be a lot worse.
We could be like Australia, where airsoft is in a bit of a dead-zone - not legal, but not 100% illegal either.
Or Portugal, where everyone has to have parts (about 45%, IIRC) luminously coloured. No ifs or buts, it has to be partially painted.
Fact is, we can airsoft. Sure, we have to jump through a few hoops - but we're not outright banned from playing.
[1]No, not THAT way...
