Ah - I'm with you. Sorry, I appreciate that I didn't exactly make that clear. No - I realised the business licence was one way of doing it. The Foundation Licence, I believe, is another, and is cheaper (but harder work - involves 10-12 hours of training and an exam). The antenna change was from an Airsoftology video where he makes the point that it's much better for range. Sorry for any confusion, and thanks for all your help!

With the greatest due respect, I don't think I'd missed the point at all..? What makes you say that? I appreciate the licenced route, or the PMR route. We're just talking about different licences. The Foundation Licence from the RSGB (well, trained by them, licensed by Ofcom) covers all amateur bands up to 10 watts. Doesn't this cover the Baofeng? (as opposed to the Business licence) The two radio solution sounds sensible.

Thanks guys. It seems the answer is to find my nearest radio club and do the Foundation Licence, then get the Baofeng with a different antenna (if I've understood that right). Cheers.

Thanks Baz. I was aware of the legal requirements, though it seems to be a bit of a moot point in that I've loads of people who run Baofengs without being caught. I don't think Ofcom have the manpower or the inclination to pursue your average airsofter, though I don't doubt it's a bit like speeding: most people do it, but it doesn't make it right, or penalty-free. However - my question wasn't about the legality so much as the compatibility - is your average PMR446 radio compatible with the radios that other people tend to rock up with at your average walk-on, and/or is the Baofeng, and/or is there a better option..? Hi all, I like the idea of a radio. I don't play as part of a regular team - just walk-ons, but the idea of having radio comes is appealing. Now, the problem is, of course, that I need a variety of compatibility, I guess... The Baofeng UV-5r looks good, and I'm not worried about the legal aspects, but I don't know to what extent it's compatible with other radios on a 'turn up on spec' basis. Or I could go down the PMR route, and get a Xtn or something, and it sidesteps the legal side of things, but then I don't know how compatible they are wi what other people are likely to have on the variety of sites that I play on. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience of this? Cheers

Exactly this for me. I don't spill any filling hi-caps, and have what looks like a flexible camo canteen that someone made and sent with a gun I bought. It has a coke bottle neck and lid glued into one corner and I was highly skeptical when it came but it works great in the field - not that I often have to refill in the field. Two hi caps tends to do me for me most games where I play...

Thanks to all for their input and contributions. I really do appreciate you taking the time to reply to my numpty problems. I've been waiting for a few things to arrive - some low resistance cable, and a signal wire for my Gate mosfet, and thought I'd do everything at the same time, but in the event, I got home today and thought, "The hell with it..." and changed the barrel over without drama. The hop unit was quite incredibly robust, and will change the hop rubber over for something at some stage. I don't know whether the barrel will make a whole heap of difference or not. To be honest, the biggest benefit was getting it apart, grubbing around a bit, and then getting it all back together again working. That did wonders for my my knowledge and confidence, which is probably, on balance, a good thing... Cheers all

Well, I don't really want to change the hop up, but Sitting Duck made the point that if one is changing the barrel, there's an advantage t doing that with the whole hop unit etc so you can just swap them in and out if it all goes wrong... Gun is a cyma in a T&J tactical body.

Hi all, Never changed anything in an AEG before, except recently moved my battery pack to the crane stock on my tactical AK. So - I have a Mad Bull 6.03 barrel to fit. I read Sitting Duck's advice about fitting a new hop up unit/bucking at the same time, which makes sense. I just wanted to check - given that gearboxes are e same, and not gun specific, are hop-up units the same? Do I need an AK hop up unit, or are they all the same and I just need a general one (and new bucking). Sorry to be such a n00b...

There are 4 pins but it says 2s-3s so I presume the right conversion lead will get round this..?

Hi all, Have finally sourced a charger off ebay and wired it up, only to find that the balance plug on the battery doesn't fit the RC charger. Grr. Any suggestions?

Hi all, I'm moving from nicads to lipos. I have a mosfet, and a 7.4v battery which is wired nunchuck style so that it will fit in the crane stock of my tactical AK. THe thing is, I'm a bit baffled on what to get for a cheap charger. The cheap ones seem to either come without a UK plug, or are badged as 2-3s, and I can't work out if, with a nunchuck style type battery, it has 3 cells or 6? Hi all, My regular site is semi only, and that's fine - it's CQB, and it suits it fine. That said, being a proper newbie to the sport, I'd really like to experience it, 'just to see'. Are there any sites around my neck of the woods that anyone knows of that do allow full auto? Cheers
