I'm after a flash light for the lower rail of my TM G17, budget isn't really an issue but I want value for money, ideally in the £50 region. But willing to pay more if its worth it, an obviously happy to pay less if £50 isn't worth it. There are so many clones about its hard to know where to spend my money. Any ideas welcome!

Yes it would seem your right! So I have put the stock unit in, with a maple leaf rubber and a new nub. Now shooting at 330 consistent. So leaving it there. I did sand back the ZCI hop unit to get it closed to the nozzle which did increase the fps to 320 ish from 300. But couldn't take any more material without interfering with the dial. So stock unit with a cut down ( alot) large barrel spring with new rubbers, sector chip removed seems to have it sorted. Thanks for your help all! 👍

Another update, took it all apart at lunch to remove the delay chip, after that test firing 20 ish bbs the first shot was 330 then all 300, first time I have seen 330 on this spring. Now convinced that the gear box can do 330, i concluded it must be a nozzle/hop interface, so rebuilt that ZCi unit again. test got about 2 shots in 20 at 320/335. So tried the oem Hop unit. now consistently firing at 325/330. Which is a shame as the ZCi hop unit seemed to be a more capable unit in terms of Hop, but rubbish in terms of air seal (in this specific gun). Any ideas how I can make it better? Kind regards James

Thanks Adolf and Ad, Some good points to look in to tomorrow. Something else I have just thought of, there is a sector delay chip in there, which I can't belive is needed, so will try removing that tomorrow as I could be keeping the nozzle from making a good seal at the right time....maybe. Thrust bearings being on the spring guide and piston? Masada has no bearings, just a washer/shim on spring guide. 416 has a bearing on the spring guide, so theoretically, in my head the 416 should have higher fps if all else were equal. While I think about more trial and error tomorrow, is there a down side to having a non ported cylinder? I get it will mean it throws more air out the end if the barrel, does this actually have any negative effects, I have read accuracy can suffer, but haven't had this issue on my masada with a full cylinder.

Solid logic, that said my rudimentary test suggests it's got amazing air seal even at very low speeds. Will put the bigger spring back in tomorrow, minus a coil and see how that does!

Update: I wanted to check the m100 spring in the full cylinder...Still only gets 300fps, and that was only after rebuilding the hop unit as initially I was getting 160ish! There is still something I don't understand! A spring that gets 370 in the masada gets 360 in the 416. The M100 gets 330 in the masada but only 300 in the 416. I think there is a random factor such as nozzle to hop seal which changes slightly everytime I open the gun up! It's very confusing!

That's very kind of you. I have a few spare springs....and have now solved the problem! I put a bigger spring in the gun, that got 370 in my masada, still got 300 in the 416....so as it turns out... The issue was the ported cylinder! The stock cylinder has a port at 4/5s ( my guess). I didn't consider that to be the limit with a 275mm inner barrel...and I was wrong! Just put a full cylinder in there. 360fps now! What a roller coaster!

Thanks you for your reply, Yea I know its not apples with apples, I was just wondering if I should be trying to "fix" the air seal more before putting a bigger spring in. Barrel length and cylinder are stock - can't remember where the port is on the cylinder or even if it has one- will check next time I go in. I tested it by putting putting the nozzle on the cylinder head and ramming the piston down there with my finger over the Nozzle. I did just try it with my Masada barrel (6.05 PDI) but unfortunate the gun wont feed with that setup. the hop rubber block the bb from entering. so can't rule out that making a difference. Sorry should have said stock barrel length is 275mm

aha, update, changed the hop rubber for a maple leaf i had, 306fps! so looks like the nozzle didn't like the ZCI hop rubber! So now I'm at 306- the question is is that ok on a ZCI m100 spring that gets 330 in my masada? I know there are variables such as barrel length, which is very similar and diameter of barrel, but is 306 fps possible with no other issues? Thanks all for your help

I have done the blow down the barrel- was fine all held air well. How do you check the nozzle outward travel? Neither hop units have o rings to the nozzle so i guess the seal there is never going to be perfect? How do i check if the nozzle is reaching the hop rubber? do I have to take apart the gear box again or is there an easier way? Thanks in advance

Both, the spring helped a small amount -270ish fps. the new hop unit dropped fps to 220 ish ( done some tinkering since the 204 above but obviously still not great)

That spring seems to be doing a good enough job at pushing the hop unit back, but the fps with the new unit took a bit hit, must be a hop unit/nozzle interface I think, not sure what to do about it though.

So, update for you all... First I tried the large spring on the standard hop unit - that wouldn't fit, I couldn't close the 2 receivers when fitted, to much material in the way even when fully compressed - option to cut spring down is still there. Second the small spring on standard hop unit, this gave me 275 fps, remembering this is a m100 ZCI spring that gave 330fps in my Masada. Then replaced with the new zci rotary hop unit and included small spring...204 fps!? Also shout out to ak2m4, who managed to get those parts to me in record time! Thank you again! Thanks again guys Does the SHS HT use Neo magnets? Seemed to be so cheap i assumed it didn't! -also are these the same as Rocket Motors? This really makes me want a warhead motor! As mentioned by Iceni, when using a fast motor he gets double firing, I have had this too when using a high speed experiment build, I assume I would need to find a way to address that with this motor? Miserydrift I love negative airsoft's vids, only found him recently and can't stop binge watching them! Thanks all for the replies, appreciate the time!

Hi Guys, I'm looking to upgrade the motors in 2 of my guns: My main gun -PTS masada. Which I'm happy to spend a fair amount on if the diffence is noticeable. Which pulls a M105 spring and 13:1 gears. Priority is efficiency and semi response. 2nd gun is G36. This is just a back up gun but currently running SHS high speed motor which seems to draw alot of power as it and the electronics get rather warm. Priority is again efficiency. This runs M100 spring and 16:1 gears. So any motor recommendations in these categories are welcome. Also if there are any motors that you just generally think are great please throw it in. Thanks in advance.

I have a similar issue, unfortunately I can’t offer much useful advice but would like to follow to see what is causing yours. I have the issue with SHS high speed motor with 13:1 gears, now swapped for 16:1 gears. Basic gate mosfet with no AB. It could just be these motors? I should note, I’m still learning lots so while I have shimmed and reshimmed I can’t guarantee that’s not my issue but I’m pretty sure. All the best James

I think this is it! Looks like the bottom type of spring as there is a small knob for it to sit on! Than you again

Thank you both for the replys, Iceni, I'm new to the forum, but have been ti kering with guns for a while. Fully Aware the BBs I used for testing were blaster devil 0.2s. Which was the same ammo I used to validate the spring in masada. Thank you though appreciate the time and and handy chart to use for reference in the future. EDcase, thank you for the warm welcome. You may be on to something here! Regarding a frame spring! I can't see a spring on the hop unit ( other than for the nub). Should there be one over the barrel pushing the hop unit back on to the nozzle? If so I think you might have the answer! I haven't worked on m4s before belive it or not! Thank you!! Edcase, You are right! It's missing a spring pushing the hop unit back into the nozzle! Thank you so much. Just got to find a spring now! Finger crossed that fixes it! Hi Guys, First post here but I have a search for similar questions with no avail but if I missed it I do apologise. My brother in law just purchased a VFC 416 second hand and it's come with a M100 spring ( tested and confirmed in my masada getting 330fps). In his gun however it gets 260/270 fps, so I assume there is an air leak some where? The piston head/cylinder/ nozzle combo is air tight, not short stroked and no sorbo, it even has a bearing spring guide which should bump the fps up. I tried diffent hop rubber but still 270 fps. I'm reluctant to "solve" it by putting a bigger spring in and accepting the air leak. Am I missing something? Is there anything I can do about the stock nozzle/ stock hop unit interface? I would have thought that would have been OK being stock. But I can't think of what else the issue could be. Any ideas welcome. Any hunches also welcome! Thanks
