  1. Thanks for the comments. It's definately a functioning sight, I've attached a pic and you can see the body of the sight moves left to right depending on the direction of the set screws on either side - as you can see it's hard to the left. This is the front of the SUSAT, initially you might think "hang on, that's pointing to the right". But of course the bottom of the sight is static onto the rail, it's the lenses and casing that physically moves left/right. But yes @Adolf Hamster I did try the other way, because nor do I trust the markings on a replica sight and I thought maybe a prism arrangement was having some opposing effect, or I was just being an idiot. But it went right out of sight the other way. Also, if you pin the SUSAT down on the bench, loosen off both screws then look through it and move it left to right, you can see the reticule moving the right way, so if I could move it further left then I could get it on-target but I'm not going to start taking metal off. So I reckon the reticule is just off-centre - either been dropped or just badly assembled at manufacture. I think it's time for an email to the seller and ask if they'll just replace it. I'll let everyone know how I get on. All the best! Jock

    Susat

So Santa brought me a lovely G&G L85A2 with SUSAT included. I like the scope, as it has a nice mag/FOV combo - good for further-out targets, but still a decent width of view. It's also a bit of variety over the ordinary red dots and crosses. I've had some fun with the L85 and got to know her quite well (more on that in another post) but the SUSAT has been a real pig. I tried to zero the thing in over about 20m in the garden, but even at against the LH stop it was still firing left. I noticed there was some play on the SUSAT itself (tiny, but I guess it could be enough) so I dismantled the sight and right enough found two loose allen bolts on the underside which I duly tightened up. Didn't seem to be causing too much side-to-side movement, but was allowing the sight to move. I checked everything else and put it back together, onto the gun and it was feeling nice and secure but I could not get any improvement on the aim. Again, the SUSAT is hard against the LH stop, and while it's reduced the offset, it still well out - basically have to aim half way between the edge of the sight and the pin to hit the target. I took the sigh off and put on the ELCAN I have for my M4 carbine. Half a click on that and it zeroed right in. Shot a few mags on single shot and burst and got good continuous results all the black centre. Am I being too obivious here or is it likely that the SUSAT is just knackered? If one of the prisms is even slightly off then that would cause this problem. At full stop the sight is actually visibly out of line with the barrel of the L85, so it just can't be right. Thought I would check with some experts on here before I send it back. Thanks for any comments! Jock
  3. WOW. Well guys I got mangled (on a bloody v-pub) with a few mates the other night, and the following day one of them said "Did you get that chrono you were talking about?". I said "What chrono?". We all laughed. Next day, that HT Chrono dropped onto my doormat from Amazon. Absolutely no memory of buying it. Anyhoo, clearly fate. It's a fantastic little unit! I chrono'd the guns, and it reported pretty much bang on the same as the professional chrono at the club. It will record up to 20 shots in a burst and give you the FPS for each shot, and the average over all the whole burst. You can set the weight of the BBs and the calibre, and the unit gives to the estimated range and shot energy. Chargable through a mini-USB and as light as a feather. Zero instructions with it, so press press shit randomly and you'll figure out how it works. Wifi too, but no idea what that's for. Thoroughly recommend. Even when smashed up, I managed to locate what seems to be the cheapest chrono on the web. I'm well pleased. Must get battered more often... oh hang on, not possible. Anyway, totally recommend it. Hope it doesn't fail after a week but we'll see. Also - the ASG L96 chrono'd at 410 FPS straight out of the box on 0.20g BBs, coming down to 315FPS with 0.30g BBs which is the weight recommended in the manual. Thanks for all the other replies and advice guys, appreciated. Jock Excellent advice thanks. I'll go shooting with it this weekend, then it's coming apart on the kitchen table on Sunday.
  4. Yeah, I'm realising there is a big branding thing going on with fewer manufacturers than sellers. From your reply you don't think clipping the spring's a bad idea? I am sure I will work out where to find a generic replacement. Thanks for the advice. LOL... nice. All I need is a cheap chrono and I could try that!
  5. Hi Everybody, I know the above will surprise everyone, but I am looking to lower the FPS on an ASG L96 bolt action so that my son (who is under 18) can use it at a local club. The club's limit is 350FPS on snipers if they are used by someone under 18. The ASG fires 415FPS +/- 10% out of the box. It's not a great range for upgrade parts in general, but it was a cheap Black Friday deal and a good gun for him to learn up on. I'm pretty handy at modding things, so I have come up with the idea of snipping a couple of coils off the bottom of the spring, and reattaching the spring collar so that it will fit straight back in. This has to mean the spring will store less energy = lower FPS. I may bugger the gun, but I'll burn that bridge when I come to it. Has anyone done this? If not, can you recommend where I can find a lower power spring (I think an M90 would do) that would fit this ASG? I haven't much experience with bolt action snipers, so I'm not sure if they are all the same springs or not. Thanks for any advice or tips! Jock
  6. Hello All, My first post on this forum. At slightly over 50 years of age I have got into Airsoft basically because my kid is mad about it. I have a shotgun and have done plenty of clay shooting so no stranger to the bang bangs. But having played a few sessions and (I think) started to get the hang of it, I've really enjoyed it. Did not realise it would be such a physical work out... tramping back to the spawn point 15 times (because I'm crap) over all those trees and undergrowth finds me knackered by the 5th game.... But having decided we do enjoy it, and getting to spend quality time with my son, the wallet has opened. I grabbed a bargain Specna Arms C4 Carbine for myself, and a Lancer Tactical M4 for the boy. Both discounted so under £100 each which I don't think is too expensive to get into a hobby. We shoot up the garden where I've set up a huge OSB shot trap and do the local club every other weekend. I couldn't hold myself back during the Black Friday sale at Patrol Base and now I'm long one G&G M249 SAW. Think I scared the shit out of the elderly neighbours rattling that thing off in the garden... awesome. Only thing is I do take it easier running around these days, a twisted ankle or knee just don't heal like it used to!!!
