    After seeing how well my m21 performed last weekend, I've decided to drop my spring VSR to 1.1J as well. HPA is still set for 2.3J, but if I can get that performance with 1.1J... well, we'll see if I keep the HPA VSR at 2.3J in the future

    It seems like an amazing idea but there will be complaints from opposition that you're too close and within MED or (and I quote this as having happened to me) "they are scared of a BASR so close" or they'll start screaming for a marshall to chrono you to prove you're under.

    It's a very romantic thought and it is very satisfying but it'll be other players that ruin it for you.

    @SteveoceeYeah, I expect that'll be the case. Fortunately I'm pretty well known at my local site, but we'll see how it pans out. I'm super happy with where the power is for it, as I tested it on .32s and .48s and it was about the same power at 1.05 - 1.10J.

    Going to take me some time tuning this Hydra to perfection on Saturday. I mostly just want the perfect dwell, since it's basically a DMR/sniper build and I want efficiency, consistency and silence, but I may program in a 3rd burst instead of full-auto anyway, just because I can. Keeping it to 1.1J, so no issues there.

    The 2 second delay was almost tempting to allow me to run it at 2.3J at my local site, but if I wanted 2.3J and an MED, I'd just use the VSR.

    6 hours later and the m21 is complete. Sort of. I'll need to dismantle it again in a few days, because the custom grip line I got was a little too short, so I'll need to order another one and install it later, but all the dremeling and stuff has been done so it shouldn't take too long anyway. Also need to get the battery connectors changed over from mini JST to Deans, since I did the same on my VSR so that's what my battery has.

    Well, not too long for dismantling an m14 at least...

    Looking for opinions from you lot... What sidearm should I run with my m21 once it's HPA? My mk23 or my p226? NBB or GBB? Both fire all year round pretty reliably (even in winter) and both shoot about as far as each other as I've done exactly the same build in each for hop and barrel setup.

    The main differences come in the silence of the mk23 compared to the fun-factor and easier, faster, snappier shooting with the p226. Silence is important, because I tend to dress up like a bush and play super sneaky, but with the m21 being super silent and at 1.1J (and therefore no MED), will I need the silence or the rapid shooting in a sidearm?

    Decisions decisions... Might require a bit of field testing

    I agree. Take both and see which suits you best. I try to balance my loudouts, if primary isn't silent then go silent scondary and vice versa. Something silent for the take down kills and something to go loud with and intimidate/alert your team there is someone nearby.

    Ultimately only you can decide on this as asking “what am bestest gun ?” On an airsoft forum is a distinctly futile action as everyone will have a different reason for their opinion on the subject .

    I say mk23, no need to go loud when you have a stealthy primary (that can quick fire as well and has no MED).

    With AI500 in a few months and my local site doing a weekender at the end of August, I said "f**k it" and bought the items for the m21 project. So looking forward to building this monster!

    Build is (all going into a TM m14):

    Wolverine Hydra Gen2

    Maple Leaf Macaron 60 degree + Omega nub

    Prometheus 6.03mm stainless steel barrel

    Will run it with a 10ci tank in a stock pouch, with my CO2 adapter as a backup in case my tank runs empty.

    I'm at my wits' end with my 1911. Solved the issue with it cycling, but now it only fires maybe 5 shots before running totally out of gas on a full fill. I know the mags are small, but they're not THAT small!

    could try changing the valves, may be sticking open a touch too long?

    had a similar poroblem with my m92, could barely get half a mag out off a full fill. changed out the valves and it was ok

    Thing is, before the cycling issue it was firing at least a full mag on a fill of gas. Half a mag in the winter, because it's such a small mag. I removed everything from when I had the cycling issue and even tried shoving in all the stock parts and it still had the same issue.

    I've worked on a lot of pistols, because I tend to tweak mine to perfection since I use them so much more than most because boltie and MED, but this one has me at a loss for words. It has exactly the same build now as my p226 that works so flawlessly :(

    I had a WE 1911 many years ago that had an issue like this. It seemed to cycle fine most of the time, but efficiency was piss poor & recoil was very inconsistent. I tried a bunch of things to make it work before eventually realising that the trigger disconnector was digging into the slide (and the harder the trigger was held the harder it was pressed against the slide, to the point that you could stop it cycling by holding the trigger hard enough)... in that case the fix was to simply add a shallow groove for it into the blowback housing so the slide wouldn't try to push it down more than was necessary.

    Parcel arrived from HK today, so I now have stubby mp5 mags! I way prefer them to full size, especially since I use the mp5k as a secondary.

    I love my short mags. I use them in my mk23 carbine, my new PP-91 Kedr lookalike Mosquito, and as a triple set to make mags 8-10 for Sims.

    Hmm, 65 is a lot more viable, I might look into that for CQB.  Woodland, I use my MP5K as much as the sniper/DMR, because I'm That Guy who actually sticks to MEDs. (/rant)

    So, the Nineball DYNA piston head sucks. It's too tight in the nozzle, meaning it doesn't return because the return spring isn't nearly strong enough to combat the friction caused by the o-ring being tight against the nozzle, even when coated in lubricant, leading to it not building enough momentum to load the next BB and gets stuck. I've since removed it and replaced it with the stock piston head in both my p226 and 1911 and they now cycle flawlessly again.

    Been a while since I've been able to use them, so might use one instead of the mk23 this weekend as a sidearm.

    Fingers crossed for you, we're all having to make that sort of decision at the moment.  I'm still holding out for short M4 mags in the UK, given the problems we've seen.  I reckon I've got an AliExpress M4 solid stock that's been stolen by Border Force without notice.

    On the MP5K, I just slap in a 500+ round double-stack mag as I leave the safe zone, then that's me done.  But of course those seem to be out of stock in the UK as well.

    @RogerborgI've had that temptation, but the battle rattle is unacceptable for me. I've tailored everything in my loadout to be as quiet as possible (apart from the actual firing of the mp5k), so that'd be counter productive to the rest of the loadout. I might pick one up at some point and try it out at some point, but not yet.

    Just finished watching Black Hawk Down (again) and reminded why my original RIF loadout was an m14 and a 1911. Going to bring both to skirmish this weekend; last time I used them I had that kind of moment defending an objective from basically the whole enemy team.

    It’s actually a mirror M14 , film companies like to re-release different cuts of films like extended cut , directors cut , etc this is from the latest cut the ‘arse backwards’ cut , a unit of Murcan travel to Mogadishu to bring dead people back to life by sucking bullets out of them with there magical guns of life !

    Full weekend proper milsim, or daily filmsim?

    I've yet to try the former, but have really enjoyed the latter as a sniper/medic.  There wasn't actually that much sniping getting done, but being the eyes of the squad (and crawling through the undergrowth to put heal tags on) made for an interesting change from Rush the Objective games.

    As you say, only one way to find out if you'll like it.

    @Rogerborgit's the former; full weekend thing. I think I'll really enjoy daily filmsim, which I'll also be getting into this year hopefully, but full weekend proper milsim I just don't think will be for me. Especially since our entire squad doesn't have any NVGs so hopefully we can just hide in the bushes for the 6ish hours it'll be dark.

    Many hours later, the TM m14 is back together and is firing between 1 - 1.1J. It's perfect power, but I can't zero it or set the hop up until next game day.

    I don't think I hate taking m14s apart that much any more. It's time consuming, but I didn't find it as bad this time. Shoved in a sorbo pad and perfected the AOE, but chose to not fix the fire selector (it snapped when I DMR'd it last year. Fixable with some electrical tape) as even though it's not normal AEG power, I still want it locked to semi auto as I'm going for a more sniper-y m21 build.

    This'll last me until I get my hands on the Polarstar F2, but this was a cheap fix to make it usable for me, as I hate DMR power levels and 1.5J was giving me nothing over 1J apart from a pesky 30m MED.

    Damn Patrolbase and their sales. The only thing stopping me getting 3 new RIFs is that together they would cost more than the Polarstar F2 I want for the m14, and I want that more while also saying I wouldn't get it until I finish paying off debts.

    @Asomodai I was looking at the Bolt m4 (want one for a project), the Ares Amoeba sawn off sniper (1J CQB sniper project!) and the Chiappa Rhino (for pure fun factor)

    However, I don't want them more than my perfect m14 build. I am a bush wookiee, after all.

    Need some advice from you lot. Got a prometheus blue flat hop rubber in my 416 and was going to test it this weekend. However, the Maple Leaf AEG MR hop rubber arrived today (thanks ak2m4 for  the shockingly fast delivery!), so should I throw this rubber in instead for this weekend, or keep the prometheus in? it's basically between using the MR hop rubber with an omega nub, or the prometheus flat hop rubber with flat nub.

    Both are untested setups, so I have no idea how it will go.

    Keep the other rubber in your bag so you can swap and test both in a single day :D

    Don't forget to use the correct tensioners too!

    Just bring a backup incase they both misfeed or you can't be arsed changing them around ?

    Yep. Got the omega tensioner for the MR rubber and the prometheus flat tensioner for the prommy flat rubber. Think I'll take both as that seems like the best idea, though I'm eternally wary of doing tech work in the woods because small parts can get lost easily, so have to be super careful.

    The 416 is my backup, so if it has issues it's not the end of the world. I'll be using the VSR and my bush suit, as usual, but it's always good to have a backup (the 416) or two (the cheapo cyma tri-shot) just in case!

    Going to ache tomorrow, and I didn't even play for the first half of the day as I was sorting out guns.

    VSR managed to invert its hop rubber and basically tear it in half, so I've had to come home and swap that out. Thankfully I have ML rubbers to spare, so I should be HPA VSR-ing next week!

    I did the thing that loads of people say not to do; I bought a hand pump for my HPA tanks. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with the results; didn't take me too long to fill my 10ci tank that I will be using with the VSR.

    Will try the 48ci tank when that finally runs out (won't be for a few months because I don't even have the Polarstar F2 for the m14 yet), which could take a lot longer and may not be too practical, but for the 10ci this hand pump is wonderful.

    Speaking from experience, 13ci to 3000PSI takes about half an hour (not accounting for a break to allow the pump to cool down if needed). 48ci to 3000PSI took me about 2 and half hours (which is accounting for cool down breaks, because there is no way of avoid that thing warming up more than is ideal with a larger tank). For me the most notable change in how hard it was to pump was going from 2300ish PSI up to the 3000 area, YMMV. And with a larger tank obviously you spend longer pumping at those higher pressures, hence the sizeable increase in time taken... alongside needing more breaks for things to cool down.

    From 0-2300 it's pretty much a breeze, just need to make sure you're maintaining the proper technique throughout and not getting lured into the temptation of fast strokes equals faster fills. Should be stoke down, wait a second, stroke up, wait a second, stroke down, wait a second etc etc.

    Hand pumps are a solid option as a primary means of filling smaller tanks, especially if you have a few to avoid having to pump during lunch breaks. They're good for topping up larger tanks if needed, but I don't think they're particularly suitable as a primary fill method for larger tanks. My personal experience would also say hand pumping much over 3000PSI would be really hard, so would definitely advise against it for tanks that go North of 3000PSI.

    I noticed it was significantly more difficult between 2000 and 3000 too. Fortunately it didn't take long to fill that with large strokes and it seems like the psi has settled to around 2600psi, as I didn't want to risk over-filling it. I'm constantly paranoid of screwing up and exploding things and seriously hurting myself :P

    Aye, you definitely hit a point where it's more body weight than arms than are getting you a proper compression. Taking it safe is never a bad shout, even with the protection of burst rings covering you from anything catastrophic, most of the gauges on the hand pumps shouldn't be trusted as accurate haha. It's pretty crazy how much of a dip you can get once everything has cooled down.

    Decided to dive in and changed out the spring in the VSR. Laylax sp130 came out, Laylax sp90 and 4 tensioners went in.

    Consistent and spot on 1.1J on .48s for no MED. Granted, it's a backup for if my HPA VSR has a tantrum, but I figured I'd give the 1.1J bolt action a go.

    yup, as long as the hop does its job with those 0.48s..

    Last saturday we were dicking around with hop units on AEGs and we got 72m (lased) on 0.32s @0.98J

    I shouldn't have an issue with the hop not lifting them, but just in case I do I'll have some .4s and .32s around to try as well. As long as it's going 60+ effective range, I'm good with it as I'll be firing it from concealment anyway and my local site is dense foliage so anything over 60m is fairly rare.

    Loving the bolt pull though. It's one of the things I love about the HPA VSR is that the bolt pull is effortless (as movement gives away concealment most of the time). Yes, there's a small amount of effort with the 1J spring, but pulling back this spring is child's play.

    Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by the bolt pull on my VSR compared to the Striker, I could cock the thing all day with my pinkie finger.

    And I have M100 springs in both :D

    Ok, mag release screws in 1911s are utter craptastic trash. I gently unscrewed mine and it broke half the screw head off of my Bell 1911 (expected because that is meant to be a crap gun), but even the TM one warped horrendously.

    That being said, the Bell 1911 mag release is now on the TM, which I have decided to use for all my best parts to make it the most high performance. TM 1911 mag releases are shockingly bad and jettison the magazine if a soft breeze passes by. The Bell 1911 one requires a bit of pressure to push, so hopefully I won't lose any more mags!

    Can't say I've ever had an issue with a 1911 mag catch screw.  Taken apart countless ones.  I think you just got unlucky.

    I was working on the 1911s and came across a metal feeding nozzle for it among my parts, so I installed it in the Bell 1911. Do metal feeding nozzles still exist for GBB pistols? If so, who does them?

    @Steveocee wouldnt a metal nozzle also make the gun get cold quicker with how quickly metal reacts to temprature compared to plastic there for reducing the power of the pistol a gd bit more aswell just asking out of curiosity with just getting into gbb myself

    Dug out my old Bell 1911 and the magazine that was leaking gas. Managed to fix the magazine, so now I have the oldest gun in my collection fighting fit again. It's probably been in the hobby longer than some of you lot xD

    Once I am allowed to spend on airsoft again, I'm going to give it an internal makeover. It's a really solid feeling pistol, full metal construction, upgraded recoil spring already and 100% accurate trades unlike my TM which has the TM trades on it too. Once I get all the internal parts for it to make it shoot amazingly (in theory. Worked on all my others!), it'll probably be a mighty fine fair-weather pistol on red or even black gas. Anything too cold though and there's no point even trying.
