  • Local site: "You MUST wear boots that provide ankle protection. If you show up in trainers or unsuitable footwear, you will not be permitted to play."

Me: "Ruh-roh!" [Types a treatise on why their active voice has created liability for themselves where none existed, and wondering what they'll say when some ambulance chaser asks "So, what exactly qualified you to determine that my crippled client's footware was 'suitable' when it demonstrably was not?"

Also me: [Takes a deep breath, deletes]

They'll find out the hard way, or they won't.  But I doubt they'll believe that trying to do the right thing can create a rod for your own back, until it's whipping them.

For those of us that weren't 1980's metal heads, these were de rigeur footwear for anyone that was into thrash (before Stranger Things made it cool).

    Update:

Literally 5 minutes ago, for tomorrow night's game.

When you see the local site yet again spacking up their booking link on Failbook, and you compose a reply with the working link, then ask yourself "When has the day ever been better with more players who need spoon-fed?"

AB++ fitted. Burst mode bursting. Pre-cock cocking.

Put back together. No burst, no auto.

Oh, snap, I've cleaved the ropey G36 selector plate clean in twain.

Ropey replacement on the way, superglue and cable tie reenforcement bodge in full effect.

I remain amazed that these things ever work.

Well it's like my wife says. Everything remotely suggestive to guns or knives is actively discouraged. If the kids in playground are seen extending two fingers and using thumb as a hammer whilst shouting bang they are gently moved on to something else.

    Rogerborg
    Rogerborg
I was wondering how a fingerbang scene ever got this far into production, but it seems that it's been Bowdlerised now.

Ah well, at least nobody got Baldwinned.

Have a merry Christmas, you moody mares, I hope you all get exactly what you deserve. :P

I've rattled Mrs Borg's box and reckon it's some wire strippers, so I'll be rewiring all the things while watching a Die Hard marathon (or maybe just Die Hard five or six times, same difference).

See you when we're all sober again.

'Let everything that’s been planned come true.  Let them believe.  And let them have a laugh at their passions.  Because what they call passion actually is not some emotional energy, but just the friction between their souls and the outside world.  And most important, let them believe in themselves.  Let them be helpless like children, because weakness is a great thing, and strength is nothing.  When man is born he is weak and malleable.  When he dies he is hard and insensitive. When a tree is growing, it’s tender and pliant, but when it’s dry and hard, it dies.  Hardness and strength are death’s companions.  Pliancy and weakness are expressions of the freshness of being, because what has hardened will never win'

Why do you keep bringing up the issue of the media during the trial?  That has nothing to do with how he is viewed after the trial?

How many riot situations have you been in?  Personally, in a career of over 20 years in one form of police or another I have been in several.  And the last thing I would want in those situations is to have a loaded weapon.  Absolutely reckless.

    Rogerborg
    Rogerborg
"Why do you keep bringing up the issue of the media during the trial? "

Because that's the part that interests me, as it's most relevant to us.  Anyone with a slightly outré hobby or outlook is ripe for being smeared by the media as an extremist, and it could happen to any of us.

I received a very light and impersonal smearing several decades back when I appeared in some stock footage in a piece on xenophobic extremist Scotch nationalist.  That the footage was from a Historic Scotland reenactment of Bannockburn was neither here nor there to STV: it was enough for them to declare that my hatred for the English was so much that I liked to dress up and fight Englishmen with swords and axes.

Oh, and they actually showed footage of the English side, which I happened to be on that day to even the numbers.  But again, reality is irrelevant to the media when they're selling a story.

"And the last thing I would want in those situations is to have a loaded weapon."

Colonial rules apply to this one though.  Rittenhouse's first assailant was armed with a chain, his second or third with a skateboard (which are now habitually used as weapons), and his fourth assailant was armed with a pistol, and has expressed regret that he didn't shoot Rittenhouse, and was in the act of trying to do so when he was literally disarmed.

It comes down to whether we believe that him being armed was the cause of all that kicking off and him being attacked in the first place, and whether he'd have been safer being unarmed.  It seems that another mostly-peaceful-protestor had just fired nearby and that both Rittenhouse and the deranged child rapist arsonist attacker (who had made repeated direct threats to kill him) may have believed that the other had fired.

However, the jury decided otherwise, and that Rittenhouse's provocation was putting out the fires that deranged-child-rapist-arsonist had started.

Given that, his only real choices were to go armed, or not go at all.

Funnily enough, it was following the publicising of the attacks on him that the National Guard was finally sent in to settle the situation down, so Rittenhouse did actually achieve his goal bigly.

You don't go at all then.  Leave it to the professionals.

When you start unloading from Sunday, realise that ex-Workmate Eddy has filled eight magazines with a random mix of BBs, and you're so cheap you try to pick the tracers out.

Fair enough.  I ask because my surplus boots do actually have a GoreTex label, and I'm coming round to the  ritual belief that "Gore Tex" and "waterproof" are synonymous, and if it don't have the label, it don't have the magic.

That said, I'm far too cheap to drop hundreds on actual branded gear, so will take a punt on the "MVP" sweat-pants anyway. ;)

    Lozart
    Lozart
Surplus US ECWCS stuff is legit GoreTexTM but it's a bit pricier than the Brit gear and more likely to be used. Modeern Brit gear moved away from Gore products (for cost reasons I dare say) but the MVP stuff is just as good.

It's fine for motorcycle use so should be fine for airsoft, whatever the actual material.

Dutch Seetex is amazing.  My jacket has been totally waterproof for 20+ years, although the camo pattern is now extremely faded.  The elbow pads even survived a low speed tumble.

Halp misters, can anyone point me at MP5K butt plate push pins, or the right magic phrase to find equivalent pins from a generic supplier?

Morning Roger. I have some spare ones you could have. I ordered some VFC pins recently for my gbbr mp5 but I only needed the long pin and not the 2x short ones. I've tested these on my JG mp5k and they do fit - they are about 0.5mm longer than the ones that came with the JG and they are a snug fit.

Yours for £5 all in if you want them.

The Emperor is protecting me from seeing the same tiresome childish incel smut being posted eleventeen times for every time it's reposted on Reddit.  I won't miss it, I suspect.

That awkward moment when an ex-workmate asks when I'm next playing, as he wants to get back into airsoft again.

Nice bloke, but very much Gen-Z / Facebook generation.  Thinks airsoft toys should just work, has never even split his M4, won't do his own research, is constantly asking what he needs to buy and from where and how long it will take to arrive...

This is why I far prefer going alone, it can be bad enough just sorting out your own kit issues of a morning without feeling responsible for the guy who'll rock up at 10-to-briefing-o'clock with his hop rubbers dried up, batteries flattened, and gas mags pissing propane.

I offer advice, but I don't parent them. I'll give friends my advice, but I won't coddle them and make sure they've taken care of everything (as you said, it's hard enough to remember all my kit, let alone someone else's. I always forget my hot sauce for my lunchtime burger!). Mistakes are a fantastic teacher.

If the past year and a half has taught me anything, it's to just say it like it is and save yourself the time. If he doesn't like it then I doubt he'll be bothering you anymore, or he'll 'get it' and stop doing the bits that irk you (perhaps needing a nudge from time to time as a reminder). Either way, problem solved.

I get it's very easy to say, and awkward social interactions can be pretty painful... but don't let crap like this hinder your enjoyment of anything, irrelevant of what it is.

    what should I get tho?

Well, my lucky streak with Ali Express is over, a fixed stock has been returned to sender because "Exception parcel handling in sorting center". No, not by Border Farce: it never even left Chyna.

I wouldn't mind so much but Ali Express doesn't email any updates, you have to go and dig into order histories manually to see what's up, and it was knocked back 3 weeks ago.

And of course the sender hasn't sent it again, nor issued a refund, and I can't open a dispute until the middle of August.

I rather wonder if it was rejected for being assault-toy related, and whether that's going to be a problem for us.

    Rogerborg
    Rogerborg
I can't know for sure, but I can't imagine what else it could be. It was sent, then bounced straight back to the sender.

Ace, thanks Lozart, I'd never thought to try that, I assumed these robo-scripts are more about preventing you doing anything.  That's a dispute opened now.

@ak2m4 I had a sight rejected a few months back, seller sorted it out pretty quick in that instance though.

    Rogerborg
    Rogerborg
Well, Ali Express have resolved it in my favour pretty much instantly, although I don't know if they actually have any power to compel sellers to refund. I should find out soon enough.

    Today I learned that:

    1) When making an s-hop, the silicone cannot extrude into the barrel even fractionally, or you'll sky every BB even with no hop on, or no hop arm fitted at all.

    2) DMR naysays can say nay all they like, but I like DMR gameplay - with a working hop.  Luckily I had spares to hand and sorted it at lunch, then it was all fun and games from there.

It helps that my secondary is my snappy little 1.05J MP5K rather than a pistol.  I reckon I split the afternoon about 50-50 between them, I didn't miss out on any full auto larks.

    Impulse
    Impulse
I do the same with my VSR these days and I love it, as it lets me push and play aggressively when I need to, and if someone attacks my hide they get a very rude awakening in the form of full auto .28s. Carrying an mp5k alongside a VSR and mk23 is pretty easy.

Can anyone spot short / stubby / Vietnam style M4 mid cap mags in stock anywhere at the moment?  E.g. the Battleaxe 110rnd metal or plastic ones. They seem to be out of stock most places

Fat Bobs have high caps at £13 plus £6 postage which would be the fallback option, but I'd prefer mid caps.

Bespoke has 20 round real caps which are a milsim too far.

    I've currently looked on:

Patrol Base (the best selection and prices if they had any, which they don't)
    Airsoft World
    Land Warrior
    Arnies
    Bespoke
    Fat Bobs
    Bullseye
    Ammo Drop
    Zero One
    Targets Zone
    UK Airsoft
    And even the BBGunz4U shower.
