Looking for a Large window red dot for rifle

Looks cool as hell but that's a heavy beast! I've not finished my M249 yet, but i imagine it'll be heavy too once done.

Heavy guns are exactly why i built my short and light M4. With the red dot it comes in at just over 3kg loaded.
Anything metal and LMG has to be heavy. They tend to be monsters in size and built to last before you add big optics and stupid heavy putnick tracer suppressors then comes 3000 is rounds of .32 and a big battery.

I have a really pretty wooden hand guard LCT AKMS which is around 3.3/3.5kg which feels like a stick in comparison and with the RPK drum mag in shoots just as well as the RPK if not better but damm I love the RPK. It gets so many admiring glances and compliments until you hand it to someone and then they can’t wait to give it back.

What was the base M249? What are you planning to do with it?

The RPK's awesome. I've had one in mind for a while, but already have lots of guns, some unfinished.

My M249 is an A&K. It ate its gearbox within about 20 minutes, so it now has new gear set, motor, cylinder, cylinder head, piston, piston head, spring, basic mosfet, hop chamber, inner barrel.

I've put a short picatinny rail on the top cover to fit a Nautilus red dot, got Midwest Industries M-Lok handguard and DBAL light/laser to go on, but need to cut down the heatshield and make a mount to fit it behind the front sight post. Also need to wire up the auto-winding magazine to run off the motor.

So still a few bits to do.. then finish my 417 DMR, MP5K-PDW, G3-SG/1.. 🙃

M249 sounds painful. Is that a A&K thing or just bad luck? I keep looking at M60's and I like the look of the A&K M60, or the MK43. Would love the LCT but that's mega money, I had the opportunity to pick one up at Land Warrior and it makes the RPK feel light.

I have vowed I am not buying anymore guns for a while, I keep getting more but not fixing what I have. There's a G3 DMR which is very inconsistent, a couple of AK's that shoot but are very meh and a MP5K that only fires full auto wether set to safe, semi or full auto?? I have a couple of baskets full of parts but its not as exciting as buying a new gun 😁

A&K LMG’s and their internals lasting longer than a game day is like buying a lottery ticket, except you have higher odds of winning the lottery. The main issue with them is the magazines though

I think it's an A&K thing. The standardhop unit is absolute dogshit, the roughest nastiest pot metal crap. It needed a fair bit of modification to lift even .25s and was ultimately replaced with an AirsoftPro one.

20 mins of test firing and trying to set the modified original hop and it stripped a gear.

Externally it's pretty nice, not amazing but still pretty good and solid but i was shocked at how awful the internals were. It has since had everything inside replaced and is waiting to be finished and taken out to be gamed.

Is it a VFC G3? Mine is wildly inconsistent and needs a thorough once-over. I tried to zero my scope and gave up because it was just impossible.

Strangely, the magazine works pretty well!

Very pretty, like that a lot!

Mines a LCT G3, it can shoot incredibly well but 20 mins later it doesnt want to know. When I picked it up it was a bit rough but knew I wanted the base gun to build into a DMR and it’s had barrel, hop unit, hop rubber, nub, MOSFET, piston, gears motor, spring, o rings and washers basically all new internals.

When it comes back from the tech it’s shooting lovely, 1.88J, .36/.4 BB’s fly miles and it’s super accurate, then after a short while, maybe a game it either looses power, pulls each shot to the left or the right. I’ve tried putting the original hop unit back in and it shoots .5J, I’ve changed the hop rubber a few times but just can’t get to the bottom of it.

It’s in the naughty corner in the back of the wardrobe at the moment and needs some time or a trip to the tech to try and understand the problem, again. It’s had a small fortune spent on it now so I shouldn’t give up on it. When it does get fixed and to field I use my little Cyma MP5K as a secondary, a great but heavy combo.
