Rules of Airsoft patches?

ANYONE tells me that they think a 14 year old kid or some overweight, middle aged weekend warrior is honestly trying to make out that they served by wearing an SAS badge to a Sunday skirmish then they're being bell ends.

Just between us lot, I'm not really from the 40th century or using a laser gun.

Anyone who's at a site to play with toy guns should have their expectations set firmly to silly and frivolous.

If you're offended by what you see, you can have a quiet, friendly word about it, and explain your fee-fees.

If the response is a shrug or hostility, then either suck it up, leave, or take it to the site if you think it crosses a line.

First person to rage loses, and should find a different hobby.

I thoroughly enjoy watching people with no military experience telling others to not wear patches they haven’t earned.

you get the same tools in road cycling over the last 15 years since British cycling decided to throw a lot of cash at a sport that used to be the preserve of hobbyists.

now Everyman and his dog owns a 10k bike for the Sunday club run they all say you can’t/shouldn’t wear team jerseys/world rainbow bands/tour jerseys etc.

this picture made them all apoplectic

This has been coming up since I started; there is no consensus and there never will be.  All I'd say is, if you wear actual SF patches and real ranks etc in bb wars you will almost certainly look back at pictures from those games in years time and go 'oooh... cringe'.  This game has enough of that as it is, less is more with patches.

Well said, and a good summary!

Sometimes wonder if half the "Walt Hunters" are actually Walts themselves. There's reference to us "Airsoft Mongs" however I've bumped into quite a few current and Ex-mil in the sport, all of whom enjoy it and have no issue with anyones setups. Personally, I have no desire to dress up in MTP or MARPAT however if someone wants to then fair play to them. Some of the recreations of real-life loadouts I've seen at my local site are impressive and we have to acknowledge that a substantial part of Airsoft consists of cosplay, whether that be lasgun-wielding superhuman hulks from thousands of years into the future, Xenomorph-slaying Colonial Marines, Master Chief/Doomguy impersonators or WW2 reenactors- all of which are good fun and show off ones individuality.

You're not wrong there, plenty of folk bitter they didn't get to sign up for whatever reason, and overcompensate by guarding the sense of honour they could only look at from afar

I don't have a problem with patches in airsoft. As others have said, we're all playing dress up at the end of the day. Airsofters wearing impression kit are not the same as the wankers that buy berets and medals off eBay and pass themselves off as veterans at November ceremonies.

Me and my mates all wore our issued MTP when we first started a couple of years ago because why pay for extra kit when we had free stuff? No rank slides though!

Ill wear country and service patches at most. Never rank or insignia you havent earned. But TBH, its airsoft. Everyone knows its just fancy dress up in the end. Dont go all Stolen Valor and youll be fine

And another thing, if you do turn up with your Captain Sergeant-Admiral stripes on, don't expect anyone to even know what you're pretending to be, let alone care.  The only rank insignia I can recognise are from Star Trek, and nothing beyond Voyager.

II don't think I've ever seen anyone on site throw a tantrum over a patch another player is wearing, rather it just seams to be an online/American thing.

Personally the only patch or unit ID I definitely wouldn't wear is the red beret of the Russian Alpha group as they have specifically asked airsofters not to

I’m more likely to be in jeans & t shirt, but when it comes to dressing up I have preferred to be with the underdog or bad guys.  Couple this with my fondness for wood I have a few AK47s and historically would have been for Russia

Being in Salisbury and being friends of a particular local family I’m not going to be representing anything Russian

However if wearing something might upset a branch of Russian SF then I may be inclined to do so

I dont wear any patches as they tend to give snipers something to aim at (same reason I stopped wearing a helmet). My all-OD setup seems to be working well at my local evergreen woodland site, to the extent I've also repainted my guns OD.

If I'm honest I'm liking the anonymous look. Fits in with my sci-fi loadout.

If the cosplay crowd are anything to go by, every fucker in Starfleet is an Admiral!
Nah, much more fun being the phaser-fodder rear-echelon Ensign that always gets sneakily picked off by the aliens at the start of the episode...

...or maybe I'm confusing that with my airsoft personality.

I’ve never really had a problem with patches as such, but this may be due to me using ODST patches from the Halo games, which no one really understands anyway lol
