First skirmish this weekend!

So i'm doing my first skirmish this Sunday which i'm looking forward too, i have a ics m4 and protective glasses and ammo with two magazines. What i'm looking for is any help on kit i may need and just some friendly advice. Obviously my first time i don't want to spend too much money just in case its not for me, but i'd love some pointers from experienced players and any help would be appreciated!

 
Just go shoot some people :P That's all there is to it really.

You'll pick up more the more you play. If you want to know anything specific, then fire away. It's what the forums are here for.

 
Just introduce yourself to some players, you'll probably start chatting, be on the same teams and you can just do what they do :)

best way to learn IMO.

Id go for some way to carry some water ie bottles or camelbak type set up, possible a few more mags you be suprised how on ur first shoot the ammount of bb's your use, extra ammo be good to and some where to store it when you get there you se how ohers have got theirselves set and go for what you feel you'll need. My first time I took what seemed like my whole house in my assult vest god was it heavy but now after seeing others I've seen I only take half of what I did many mags, ammo, water, and a multi tool hope this helps good luck and have a great day

 
One thing i would add is check your sites rules on foot wear, some sites are really picky about you only wearing proper boots.

 
thanks for all the advice, i decided to pick up a belt and a couple of pouches today and i got a hat too as i have a kinda stand out hair cut so its best to hide it, once i've played a few games and i know its for me i'll look at getting more gear, i have 4000 bb's to take with me for the day and they have an onsite store so if i need more it won't be a problem, i'll be playing at airsoft billericay.

As said somewhere above. One thing you will defiantly need is some kind of refreshment. Be it water, juice or a nice flask of tea. Good luck out there!

 
How did your first skirmish go?

well i had my first game today and now i'm totally hooked!! can't wait for my next game.

 
Yeah, welcome to our nuts! Take a deep breath and imagine all the spare money you will have over the next year or two... all of it piled up... what you could do with it... places you could go... things you could buy... events you could attend... and now, exhale. If you manage a little sigh, so much the better. Now, solemnly and sincerely say goodbye to that cash!

To start with you want boots and steel mesh goggles or full face protection with steel mesh over the eyes. I recommend wide mesh goggles of this type and a mesh half face mask like this. I had to mod my 1/2 face with some foam so it fit comfortably, but it wasn't hard to do.

No doubt you'll want a loadout of some kind. When you're looking into it, don't forget good gloves and think about knee/elbow pads...

 
Im really sorry Ian but i have to disagree with you.

I couldnt get on with that type of goggles at all, they give me and some other people i play with really bad headaches.

I think the best goggles you can get are Hero Shark ones, yes they are slightly more expensive but there are amazing comfy to wear, and no headaches :)

But again its down to personal preference.

 
I really don't trust mesh goggles, they'll stop a whole BB no problem, every time up to outrageous FPS, but what happens if a BB smashes against the rail on top of your gun and you get tiny little fragments headed at your face at 200+ FPS? not a chance I'll take with my eyes thanks, I'll be sticking with a decent pair of shooting glasses and a wire lower face mask for CQB.

 
I have spoke to people about that before. apparently if you get shot in the goggles and they are mesh and the bb does shatter, the little bits that do end up in your eye is abit like grit.

I haven't ever experienced it myself, so i cant comment

All i do know is that when its raining, i have to wear mesh otherwise i cant see a damn thing.

 
I haven't experienced it either, or seen it happen... but eyes are fragile and mostly very difficult to repair, replacements are unfortunately out of stock everywhere. Getting grit in your eyes at low speed is extremely painful and can do all sorts of damage, high speed grit must be worse surely?

I still take the view that not being able to see for a couple of hours in a skirmish is better than not being able to see ever. That and mesh goggles cut out half the light, so playing in any kind of woodland with them is a real challenge as it's crazy dark!

 
All points are true i tihnk its down to user preference.

When its not raining i use specs which i love, but when it rains i cant stand not being able to see clearly. With hero shark goggles i dont suffer with it being dark either :)

 
well i got boots already and i got myself a pair of ess nvg goggles with the cortex clip for airsoft and a face mask, and yea i know what you mean about spending more and more money!!! i got myself a red dot scope today and another mag and battery so i have 3 of each now, i got by with just two but i think 3 batteries is a better idea. i decided on lens goggles because i don't trust mesh and I've watched a few reviews that don't recommend them and the ess goggles always seem to get good reviews. im planning on going to the ucap sandpit this weekend, so it will be my second time, and i couldn't wait till next month to play at the billericay site :)

 
I've never had a shattered BB coming at me, nor have I met anyone who has, but yeah, I suppose it's possible. Worse for me because I prefer the type of mesh that is mesh made of separate strands of wire, rather than the sort that's a load of tiny holes punched in a sheet, precisely because of the light issue - basically the holes are bigger and the wires thinner than the sheet steel between the holes. I think I'm in more danger of injuring myself by tripping and falling onto something that would go straight through any goggles with my weight pushing me onto it if I can't see properly. Even small poly lensed glasses steam up for me when I'm running about, so it's gotta be mesh...

To add im also not the most agile person on my feet, and can be rather clumsy.

 
I know someone who got shot in the rim of the glasses from 20m away from a sniper...

BB exploded and he got fragments in his eye.

It happens, but then thier's always a chance of a BB going in between the gap of your regular "glasses". (unless you have a seal or goggles)

down to preference really. But i don't trust em enough. Might get a pair to try but i find no real fault with my current ones atm

This is wild they allowed mags in pistols if holsterd this was bound to happen
