Hi, my first post here.

Visited a local CQB site a few times now (killhouse maze type thing in a mill) and I've decided I'm going to get membership and my UKARA on my next visit. The site's nice, I like the people and the games are fun. But I've visited once in February and then again recently and it's not changed one bit that whole time (is this normal?) so I think I might need to venture further afield, all the sites around me are ran by the same company so membership will be beneficial.

The ancient rental ASG SLV36's have told me what I definitely don't want in a RIF, glad I got to spend some time with them.

Pros of the G36?
It seemed fairly accurate but the distance of encounters is very low so I should hope it is.

Folding stock is great for using iron sights with a full face on. Last time I went I played stock collapsed the entire time and had much more hits than previous visits.

I've never had a mag run out (470 capacity).

Cons?

Crap iron-sights
Heavy at 2.8kg with no attachments or mag (especially when not using stock).
Motor and gearbox sound horrible.
Hi-Cap Mags rattling, screwing up my ninja plays.

Though it didn't often feel like the barrel was particularly long, the RIF felt unwieldy and un-ergonomic.

Winding is annoying and I frequently forget to do it.
Feels cheap.

Next Step

So I'm thinking a Delta Armory R15 Freya 7". I ended up on this one mostly because of how much had been pre-upgraded with SHS parts, a ZCI High Torque Motor a nice EFS with features comparable to those in high end models. I've now got an ok understanding of how the RIF functions and I know that just because those parts are present doesn't mean they've been fitted adequately. I'm fine with jumping into the rabbit hole of working on my own RIF and would likely get quite into geeking out and tinkering.

I probably prefer MP5's for looks, a lot more so than an M4 but in my budget they're all heavy and just annoying (those hop ups are dumb and those mosfets in the CYMA Platinum's sound like they have really bad QC issues.). The freya is not the cheapest, but I am sick of wasting money to just end up spending more down the line. I have had a look on the classifieds and honestly I'm not seeing any mega deals, unless it's a nice RIF with 7 mags that I hate the look of (I then end up settling on it 15 mins later and it's either been sold or the seller ghosts me, maybe it's my lack of posts are feedback that scares them off).

So my questions are, does anyone have any experience with this RIF?
Would it make a good starter?
What colour would you get it in?
And what would you suggest as an alternative?

My budget for the RIF is around £300 or less (not including batteries etc) I'd like something with more modern specs as a kind of future proofing.

Hi @Joesif

When I got back into airsoft after approx. 10 year hiatus I grabbed myself one of these

Double Eagle - M923G DEX556 AEG | Patrol Base UK

upgraded the hop and slapped on some attachments and away I went!

I think they are pretty decent for the money and a great "starter" I mostly play CQB so a TM Mp7 was always on the cards and its what I run 90% of the time but I still have the M923G as a back up or if I bring a friend along.

my advice is whatever you get, learn basic maintenance and it will keep you in the game more and the safe zone less!

Reviews for the Freya are generally very good.  A guy at my local site has one and has no complaints with it.  He's changed the barrel and bucking in his, but by his own account that is in chasing the last few % of accuracy rather than any shortcomings with the stock items.  I think he plays Sat and Sun every single weekend so his certainly gets used.

I don't think you can go too far wrong with that choice.

I'll also vouch for Double Eagle though along with @WildBoneZ.  My first gun was an M906C and up until the last month had been my only one for the last two years.  No end of abuse and never let me down.
