You pull the top slide backward and it compresses the spring, as it goes forwards it loads a bb (not bullet) into the barrel. Then you pull the trigger and the spring is released pushing the bb out. Actually, when I slide the slider backwards, when I release it, it slides back automatically, which means I don't even need to pull the trigger.
