Scurrminator
I've been taking my gun apart using a generic M4 tutorial to get a feel for how it all goes together. It's all gone fine so far apart from one part. On this RIF you have to remove the ambidextrous fire selector from each side to remove the gearbox (small allen screw). I did this and pulled the gear box out and a few cogs fell out either side that operate the fire selector. One side is pretty easy to figure out how it should go back in but the other side has an odd shaped cog to drive the mechanism. So two questions - How should the cog be placed when I try to reinsert the gearbox into the receiver? What should I set the fire selector to when I reattach those? I'm assuming there is a correct way of doing this with one of the three settings offering no resistance from the small spring. Attached an image below of the funny cog. Thanks all!
