Hi. A few friends and myself are looking into getting into airsoft, but id just like to ask a few questions about it.

First of all before buying any of the guns/ equipment we were going to try it with rented equipment. Does this take away any of the fun that can be had?

Also I've seen a few people talking about licenses of some sort? Can you just go and buy a gun and equipment straight out?

Is there restrictions on what you can take with you?

is there any list with all the sites available for play?

Is it easy to just jump in and have fun?

Sorry for the short essay, and I could probably find details on the internet but I thought it would be better to ask some people who have first hand experience.

Thanks

If you are under 18 then you can not buy any type of airsoft gun but your parents could buy a two-tone one for you to use. They can also give it to you as it is not illegal to own one even if you are under 18.

If you are over 18 then you can buy any two-tone immediately or do a minimum of 3 skirmishes over a period of two months. You can then apply for membership of your club and register with the UKARA. At this stage you are allowed to buy the RIFs.

Hire gear will not detract from your playing experience. The club will want to keep their guns in good condition so that they work well all day - otherwise you would keep going back to complain and they might not see you again.

If you really enjoy your first visit then you may prefer to buy some camo gear of your own and this can be quite cheap - army surplus stores etc. You may also prefer to buy your own face mask/goggles.

Airsoft Action magazine has a list of sites but probably not everyone in the country. the nearest one I could see for you is First and Only at Reading - www.firstandonlyairsoft.com but if you google airsoft in Newbury there is an indoor site.

Ok thanks for the quick reply. Yeah im 21 so I could buy my own anyway then. I saw the reading one, which looks pretty fun to be fair. How do you mean apply for the membership of my club does this mean reading? Sorry I really have no clue about this.

As for the gear I have no problems using rental gear until im sure id like to buy my own anyway.

Thanks again for the reply.

If you click on this link it will take you to the download page for UKARA registration. On the form it says that you need to be a member of a recognised site - there is a list of sites on another page of the UKARA website.

http://www.ukara.org.uk/player-registration.htm

If you register with the UKARA then you can buy your RIF from virtually any airsoft shop in the country. First and Only are one of the registerd sites (they have several around the country with one in Eversley as well as Reading). I did not see the indoor site listed but it is fairly new so they may be intending to join - worth a call.
