wow other forums!!!

Hahaha, there are some exceptions to the rule but most of us are tolerent and easy going people

its just those ignorant and ill informed pillocks that let the side down :(

Unfortunately we do need people like them to make the rest of us look good

goes back to me saying if ya post count is low when joining a forum

in a nutshell the longer serving members just think you are a noob or nob or both

alas as with many forums you have to be posting for quite a while before "some" people

start to take you seriously - kind of sterotype n all that of low post = low experience

hang on - when the hell did anybody really take me or what I post seriously ???

oh well carry on chaps at ease n all that

These responses are obviously only the people who have an axe to grind. There are former soldiers and serving soldiers who are fine with airsoft. I done my bit and left after my first tour (decided I didn't want to be put in that situation again), but I still miss it hence airsoft :) Its good clean fun and I can sleep at night without nightmares anymore.

The people who responded in that link I suspect have self esteem issues and are just defended what is probably the only aspect of their lives that has given them true meaning and confidence.

From a psychotherapists point of view I find this all rather interesting :D

What tickles me is how much the majority of airsofters dislike walts and try to replicate military uniforms in the most respectful way- without wearing badges they don't have the right to or by wearing berets with pins on and a bunch of tits on some forum call us all walting pen pushers. Nowt like sweeping generalizations is there?

Bloody hell, just ready that thread and it's not pretty. You know when they say there are no stupid questions, well I guess we can put that one to bed ;-)

Or is it more like there's no stupid question, just a stupid place to ask it?

I can see why you asked though. It would be interesting to get feedback from serving and ex-forces about our hobby. I know the site I'm a member of has a number of serving soldiers come along every now and again and they seem to enjoy it. I'm ex-army myself, a number of years ago now, but I really enjoy airsoft and take it for what it is, a hobby, a sport, a way to blow off steam from the day job. No one I know involved in airsoft takes it any more seriously than that and I think with the amount of money we spend on weapons and loadouts we can do whatever the bloody hell we like.

I am 100% behind all our armed forces, but unfortunately there are some who are just a bunch of knobs, like there are in any job. Good effort for putting yourself in harms way like that though, I dare you to ask again ;-)

The thing to bear in mind is that soldiers don't get paid much, when you consider what they are called on to do for the money (in between long bouts of make-work and playing at it with blanks). The only way you're going to get people to be prepared to risk their lives is 'esprit de corps'. The sad truth is that you can reach a lower common denominator by teaching them to find common ground with each other because they are all against someone/thing else, than you can by trying to teach them all to be for someone/thing.

I mean, the queen? Really? Who would risk the steam off their piss for some uber-rich old dear in a big house? The British Government? Lying, expense fiddling, sleaze-meisters doing their best to feather their own nests before they'd lift a finger to help a constituent, and even then they'd only do it for the publicity... A rag on a pole? The bloke next to you? Who is he? He hates lefties, liberals, and walts too, he's alright...

made me smile the last part :)

That is very true Richie

I took the oath but end of the day, who did I have to rely on in the mix of it ?

God, queen or country ?? It was the men next to me, the ones who saw each other through training, the guys who stood shoulder to shoulder, they were family to me

I hate these people who are letting the side down :(

"they were family to me"

My parents said the Army is full of thugs ( D: ) , this proves to me that they are well and truly wrong along with a lot of other things I've read on here, makes me happy that one day I'll hopefully be serving. :)

no matter what you do in life, your passing out parade with be one of the proudest days of your life. that one day tells you that you have achieved what most people cant or wont achieve

in many cases (possibly most), that instant bond and respect will become evident throughout life and that includes after service. you will meet other ex forces and there is an instant mutual respect and often friendships formed on that basis alone. being a soldier becomes your nature and even when you give up the right to the job title, you may never give up the nature which is no bad thing B)

of course you will meet some tossers who served but you will always meet tossers. just ignore them

Its strange how reading that just knocked all the respect for the armed services right out of me. There was I thinking these individuals put their lives on the line to defend the British way of life, there isn't a single British way of life comment in the whole thread. The level of prejudice, racism and general nastiness is not something I expected. If they really think so lowly of the people they defend why bother, we can have a guess at the reasons. These guys are the ones that don't get it, life and hating others isn't what any individual should be about, these people are failing at life.

Just a bunch of meat head pr1cks who have discovered how to use a keyboard. I guess when man discovered fire they just set fire to eveything...

I agree with some of the stuff they said.

Pls don't hurt me.

Edit: Before I start a flame war I agree with the following statement:

The downside being you then have to explain "manly death wars'" involves overdressing in badly fitting military or riot police style kit and running around firing small plastic beads at other nobbers, who also take it far more seriously than can be good for you.

The point is people take it way too seriously.

If people like that level of fun, what's wrong. Personally I can say Redbull rampage is mad, but if they enjoy that's fine. Plus it's good fun to watch

Ironically, what those replies your thread received demonstrated to me, was a bunch of wannabe internet warriors with so many self-esteem issues that they could fill a psychology text book. I mean really, if all those embarrassingly childish taunts about not having a life/wife/girlfriend doesn't demonstrate a bunch of people who haven't had a decent relationship in years, if ever, then I don't know what would. If they weren't such tools, I might actually feel sorry for them.

hence the question mark over their service. we have ex forces here yet we do not show the same level of narrow mindedness displayed on that forum and i am not referring exclusively to airsoft. those who did serve tend to be more accepting because we had to be so people who claim to have served yet have complete disrespect for anyone outside of their group make me doubt that they have served at all. there are some exceptions to every rule but i would say that it is in our nature to be accepting and open minded. you had to be or you couldnt trust anyone you shared a room/regiment/battlefield with. you simply could not have an armed forces with that kind of culture in it

it would be interesting to see how they react to an ex serviceperson promoting this sport to them
