TM advice

Hey guys, new to this but like everything I do I always go all in.

So looking at getting a TM, AEG.

I assume they’re all pretty much the same internally and just look different in the outside?

Looking at one of the various 416’s available or the Mk18 that’s due out soon.

Am I best getting new or are they reliable enough to get used?

 I’m coming from the guitar world, so used to dropping daft amounts of money on my toys, but I’ve had 20 years experience so know what I’m buying if it’s used or new etc.

any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

TM is pretty good for keeping it's performance even if its used. 

I would say that you gotta really want to stick to the sport if your going for a TM straight off the bat but my mate got a TM Aug for his first gun and he loves it and has served him well.

As Game Cam said, I've read plenty about people using TMs straight out of the box for 5+ years without having to repair them, so a well looked after TM second hand is a good bet. I guess it just comes down to judgement, does it look like its been thrashed, or is it a 'garage' queen someone bought and has barely skirmished?

Personally I'd go new (I'm planning on a TM 416 this Summer for my 30th) just for that sense of comfort and because I'm a personal finance masochist. I am however, new back to the hobby so no doubt someone wiser than me can chime in.

I would say pick the one you like the look/feel of and just go with that . I have the 416d custom and as AEGs go its good ... the recoil and it certainly adds to it as well.. Like most gun they do have a couple of niggles but nothing that cant be sorted. I pick the mk18 up at the weekend and tbh I dont really care for it...

M4 sopmod or any of there NGRS models.

416d I would say  go with the tan custom one.

The rest I have not had any dealings with so cannot comment.

If your going down the 2nd hand recoil route then only real advise I’d give is ;

DO NOT BUY AN UPGRADED ONE ! 

The TM recoil’s are slightly more complex than a ‘standard’ AEG gearbox and I don’t care who’s done it once you crack one of them open there never the same again , an up-graded one may fire faster and further than a stock one but I’ll 100% guarantee you which one will still be running fine in 5yrs time ! Plus who ever has done the up-grades May be a true god of techs on standard gearboxes but an utter mong when it comes to the recoil ones . Only thing I do recommend is if it’s wired to a tamiya change it to a deans and if it’s still got the quick change battery system again get rid of it and fit a deans instead as the QC battery system , as it really sucks donkey balls ! ?‍

Your right because sometimes they are much better.

As for more complex only in the way lego is more complex than duplo. 

But you are right in the fact that it is better to buy an unmolested one though because 90% of the so called upgrades are really not and most so called airsoft techs learnt from watching youtube in their bedroom (when their moms home so they can't watch anime porn)

And trigger has nailed it on the head , they are cracking good guns out of the box (me personally I think the best out of the box) but equally there’s a lot of bollox flying around about how awesome TM recoils can be with upgrades , they can be even better if you sink a lot of money int to them but hand on heart I’ve never mete anyone who can say they’ve had an upgraded one that lasted even close to as long as a stock one will , others makes of guns can and do last (I’ve got a couple of ‘normal’ AEGs that were upgraded yrs ago and are still going strong) but just speaking from personal experience no matter who does the work they just don’t have real longevity to them without on going maintenance once you crack them open and start messing around with them .

It munched it’s first set of gears, and last night munched another set (only about three outings between them) First was my fault, used an 11.1, second set no idea as I was running it unstressed on a 7.4, will take it apart tomorrow, but I know the gearbox is locked solid and it’s ripped a tooth from the motor pinion ??‍

Being a fan of TM, I would say that if you have the budget then buy a new one and get the recoil you like.   With new you have the retailer warranty and know that no one has messed around with it.

Aaahh now see this has happened due to hi-cycle guns being an abomination against all thing pure and good so t’was inevitably it would happen sooner or later .?

Yup, its the new kid on the block (in terms of the look from TM, not the actual MK18) and the MK18 audience is huge and it means people no longer have to disassemble CQBRs or SOCOMs and then buy third party rails etc...

The Delta was the same when it first came out, people love being a SEAL.

If you will actually use your sight to aim, then I'd suggest Vortex due to life time warranty against pretty much anything. They will replace the sight FOC.

If you are just going to use the BB path to shoot/correct your aim, then buy any clone you like the look of.

With mags, you can use the adaptor to run standard AEGs mags, however, you will lose the bolt stop functionality which is one of the main draws of the TM range.

So based on using the bolt stop, either use the standard STANAG looking magazine which is 82rds (I believe) or you can get the PTS EPM mags which are 120rds. Both are designed for the NGRS range so use the bolt stop. TM also do a NGRS high cap.

Grips - Ebay basically. Pick whatever you like.

Stock, again depends on what you like the look of. The CQBR stock is roomy but a lot of people switch it out for a Magpul CTR stock. Eagle6 and Davecustom will do the lipo mod for you

Lights - you can go RS...I personally run Night Evolution (clone of all the torches used by the desert dwellers) and they are nice and bright - not had an issue with any of mine.

Definitely get the deans mod.

Just a point to note from my experience, I've owned 2 CQBRs and AK102 - all 3 locked up pretty frequently on Semi before I put a mosfet in (to rectify in game, switch to full auto and shoot then switch back). However, both my Scars have never locked up on semi and neither have a mosfet. Always been a head scratcher to me as all NGRS are basically the same internally.

What batteries were you using ? I used to get lock up as well , even with a deans but once I swapped to LiPo (now running on 9.9vLiFe) no more lock up , and I’ve never had a mosfet in any of mine .

A mixture of 7.4 1300 and 1500 25-30c Lipo batteries. Same batteries I use in my SCAR. Never used NIMH in my recoils.
