I am contemplating getting an identical DPM set up to my current and dyeing it darker as well for night time woodland games, has anyone had any experience with clothes dye?

I've got a DPM jacket that had been dyed black before I got it - it looks good.

My experience with black dye is that it doesn't take half as well as i'd wished it would, but maybe it's better these days. I'm not sure that I put the right amount of salt in the water tho...

that is almost spot on the look I want.... will have an investigate, and maybe leave it on for longer before rinsing or somit!

Basically, the more natural fibres in any given item the better it'll generally take a dye. Cotton being the primary candidate.

Nylon barely takes in any dye at all, which is why to even make a very slight colour change to any modern LBE (PALS pouches, PCs, chest rigs etc) you have to boil it up with a very strong dye in a big old pot for hours and hours. Bearing in mind that most decent tactical apparel out there is a nylon/cotton mix, the higher the nylon percentage the less you'll be able to change the colour. I've no idea what CS95 is actually made from and I don't recall it giving those details on the labels (as with most issued kit) but it seems to stain easily enough from things you don't want on it, so it should take some dye. Probably not as much as Ian's jacket there since that's an older model and is probably made up of much more (if not entirely) natural materials.

Decided I needed a dedicated rig for my MP7 stuff, so thinking 'light and fast' I have just ordered a TMC (I know :-( ) 6094S with 2586J assault panel. Chuck on some blue force gear pouches and it'll all be gravy, if not I'll have another vest knocking about in my cupboard!

got a feeling it a proper army vest but not sure just say on tag tactical vest load carrying

and iv counted twice has a million pockets and hidy holes
