T M aug a1 problem

Hi I've just dug my AUG a1 out after maybe a decade of being stuck in the cupboard and now it's not firing, it's making sound and the little plastic bolt is going back and forth, will it just be that the battery does not have enough power because I'm assuming that it's knackered after all this time but was hoping I could get enough out of it to test fire, any help much appreciated. After 10 years it'll most likely need a service if you want it to shoot well and are planning on skirmishing again. 

Because of the age the service will look like this.

Hop rubber (£10).
Piston & cylinder head o-rings
Gearbox clean and regrease.

It's only the rubber parts that don't do well with age, but it's the rubber parts that make an AEG work. From a service standpoint, it's a regular service with seals and bucking, and shouldn't cost more than a regular service + parts.

What do you mean by plastic bolt. The cocking lever? That part doesn't affect the function of the gun.

The sound could be the motor attempting to turn and not having the power to complete a cycle.


Battery wise the correct battery depends on what charger you own, and if that charger is still functional. It will be a Ni-Mh battery because of the age. Batteries have moved on from that technology and 7.4v lipo is now pretty much standard. The 7.4 lipo performs like the old 9.6v Ni-Mh but with better trigger response and larger capacity. The disadvantage, lipo's need a different charger.

So the choice you have is digging out the old charger and pick up the correct Ni-mh.

Or move the 7.4v lipo and get a new charger as well....Personally, I would go with this option only if you are planning on skirmishing rather than selling the gun.

Or if you are planning on been back in the game longer have a look on Ebay for Imax B6ac chargers. There are a lot of clones on Ebay for about £20.



If you want a genuine charger buy it on hobbyking. The battery will be cheaper, and the charger will be real.

If you are planning on selling the gun then don't bother with the service or the battery. Sell it as is for a price that reflects the age and condition of the gun. AUG's are very cheap now and a new China brand can be picked up for just over £100. The TM new is about £200-250 but it's an uncommon sale since most people go with the cheaper models, or the AUG High cycle if they go TM. As such the standard TM AUG hasn't kept it's value like other TM's. I would expect a sale price of about £150 listed, but be willing to accept significantly less.

Thanks for the quick reply mate, Yeah I've still got my ni-mh charger and the old 9.6v charger I gave it a couple of hours charge before I tried it. Also took the motor out of the stock and there is a small plastic bit that comes in and out of the end which I called a bolt lol I assume this is what knocks the bb's down the barrel? Thank you for the advice on battery I will look to upgrade to a lipo I think. Not really sure if I want to keep the aug though or upgrade to something newer anyway. Just wanted to make sure it worked before trying to sell because assumed it would really badly effect the price if it was not working.

That plastic tube is called the air nozzle.

It does push a BB into the hop, but it also provides the air seal to transfer the air from the gearbox to the BB. 

With a charged battery you should see the following.

The air nozzle moving in and out, The gearbox should be making a popping noise, and you should feel air been expelled from the nozzle.

If all that is happening when you pull the trigger there is a good chance the gun should work. You may still run into issues with air seals from old o-rings, and the bucking might be useless. 


The AUG itself is still relevant on the battlefield. Nothing has happened to them in 10 years. Every China gun follows the TM design. They all still come with the V3 gearbox, use the same mags, and have the same hop units. You can still get internal parts for them without any issues at all.

The only real advances are all superficial to the AUG, Mosfet trigger contact protection, Quick change mainsprings. Mosfets can be soldered in without splitting the AUG gearbox, QC mainsprings are only useful if you visit multiple sites of varying fps limits. Since it's a TM it should shoot at the lower limit to begin with (unless it has been upgraded).

The price of the standard TM AUG is already well down. Like I said you can get the same gun with the QC spring system already installed for £100. I'm not even sure it will sell TBF. I know there is a JG on this forum that has been for sale for months at £90 and open to offers. And it's still there for sale.

It's one of the few TM's that didn't hold value. And that doesn't offer any advantage over it's china made counterparts.

Thanks that's really useful I didn't realise air was supposed to come out of that plastic bit (air nozzle) and I don't think there is any coming out, so does that mean it needs a seal kit ? If so could you give me some direction as to where to buy the correct replacement parts and how hard it is to fix myself. Thank you again mate

Level of difficulty is the problem.

If you have never stripped and rebuilt a gearbox for airsoft send it to a gun tech. They will correct the seals and know exactly what to look for.

Doing it yourself is possible. The difficulty is in the rebuilding. A lot of the parts are on springs, or are small and only fit in in one way. Meaning if you don't know what you are doing the chance to make a mistake is pretty high.

The Orings are 19(id)x2.5mm nitrile for the piston. You can buy them from most bearing suppliers.

Yours is version 3. And in addition to that, it's the AUG version 3.

The standard V3 gearbox is the AK gearbox. Most of the online video's will be based on this gearbox.

The next most common V3 is the G36 gearbox. It's closer to the AUG but still not identical.

The AUG box is unique.

It doesn't have a selector plate, The COL is always on, And it has secondary trigger contacts.
The motor cage and trigger setup are unique to the AUG.

The basic function of the gearbox is largely the same.

You'd be best off asking in your local area. Normally the local sites will have a local tech. Give your local site a ring and they should be able to recommend someone, It might even be themselves.

Failing that one of the airsoft stores will be able to deal with it.
