Ok, so I got aeg ak questions for the hive mind. My googling just made me more confused so I thought I’d try and pick your brains!
And pls bare with me with my english, it’s not my native tounge.

So I usually stick to repairing and building gbb Glocks but I thought It would be fun to visit the Berget event next summer. Mainly for some larping, hence I’m getting a used, entrylevel AK. The S&T Ak105. Hitting stuff 50m away isn’t a priority.

I’d like to slap a light and frontgrip on it so I’m gonna need to change the handguard for a railed one. A cheaper one preferably as I don’t want to throw to much money at it.

So my questions are - is it ”TM standard”? In that case Cymastuff would work right? What should I look for? Its a jungle.. and info on this ak seems pretty scarse.

If anyone already did this to an S&T Ak105 a link would be greatly appreciated!
Or a pointer in the right direction.

Im aware that it might need some dremelwork to make it fit and I’m perfectly fine with that.

Also since I’m new to aegs I’d like to know what kind of hoprubbers will fit? In case it needs replacing.

Thanks in advance you friendly fuckers!

And please assume Im completly clueless on the subject, I really am…

Regardless of TM or VFC spec, the handguards will fit. As you're already aware, it'll need filing but that is standard.

If your front barrel assembly can be removed by two grub screws, it's VFC spec (This is good)

Bucking would be any standard go to really, it should be a typical slider style so an omega nub is a good option

Got it! Omega nub it is.
So all I have to do is find an handguard specifically for the 105, and it should fit regardless of make..?!
Thank you!

Ak-105 uses the same handguard as the 74 as it's the same length gas tube/retainer slot.

There's a whole host of options, depending on what you want to go with.
https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/cyma-2...1TFSCTt_MeAqrqxwO1wyvnThpu6aRASByQbS9NpCYO92Z Something like this is cheap and effective for rails whilst maintaining the standard look and keeping it lightweight, also the AK9 style which is similar
Or zenitco clones like the Sport-4 kit which adds a whole host of rail space but makes it front heavier (And usually is about £100 for a set)

This is very helpful. So the same as 74 but not 74m or 74u? This is exactly the info I was looking for.

Thanks for the links.

74M yes, 74U no as the 74U has a shorter lower handguard

I forgot to note in my initial response that although TM spec upper handguards will fit VFC spec and vice versa, there will be a need to modify the lower handguard if the S&T is TM spec and the handguard is VFC spec. You'd need to remove the "locking tab" on the handguard

Looking at Patrolbase, they say the S&T AK-105 Sports Line is in fact VFC spec though so all handguards for the 74/74M/105/AK47/AKM will fit 👍

Nice! I had a look around and the ak 9 style looks perfect as I dont need a top rail on the handguard.
You gave me exactly the info I was looking for!

Thanks again for your help and time!

When you ”standard” and ”slider” I suppose its not the standard vsr style ones I put in my Glocks?
But longer ones? And the omega nub works like an I-key?
I really am completly fresh on anything not glock…

Ah, sooo...

This ^ is the "traditional slider" hop unit, where you slide the blue piece forwards (Not the barrel clip) and it adjusts the hop

The omega nub kinda works like the I-key, yeah. The omega nub is slightly curved, as it pushes down onto the contact patch more it creates more of a surface for the BB to contact.

The blue sliding piece moves this piece;

Up and down. The nub sits inside the piece at the bottom

And will work like above ^

The bucking itself is the same in theory as the Glock ones, just obviously make sure to get an AEG one!

I believe that the Specna AK line are all S&T OEM. If that's so, i might imagine that the Specna Magnus rotary hop for an AK (about £10 from memory, including a flat bucking and corresponding nub) should happily fit. I've been extremely impressed by the accuracy and range of my Specna AK with that hop unit installed from the factory.
