Socks just for Airsoft? Y/N

Socks specifically orientated for airsoft-like pursuits?

I use the thickest (winter) socks I already have, but I've recently been considering buying some thicker ones after I noticed that Mil1st and UKtac have sock areas.

Obviously well fitting boots is important. I spent an inordinate amount on my boots due a congenital disability (230 + 80 for different sized pairs). I can't walk in unmodified shoes so this cost was unavoidable.

What do you guys do for your under/in-boot-wear?

Walking boot socks which are padded in the right areas

 
Long boot socks. Don't wear Nylon socks, whatever you do- if you walk/run much in them you'll get terrible blisters

 
For comfort I will often use two pairs of socks in my Merrell boots. A thin pair of Nike running socks, short ankle, with good moisture wicking and then a thick pair of hiking socks over the top. The hiking socks have decent loop construction and reinforced heels and toes. Stops rubbing in boots so reduces the chance of blisters, makes the boots fit better, and adds warmth when colder outside.

 
I've always worn smartwool socks and they seem pretty good. I'd imagine that a number of the wool blend socks on the market are very similar, recently seen the make darn good socks recommended.

I find that good inner soles make a much bigger difference than socks. I've worn my normal cheapo sports socks and they've been fine with my german para boots too.

Probably the worst thing i've done footwear wise was to wear my boots every day as it meant my sweaty feet stopped the inner soles from drying out and knackered them. It's also very uncomfortable wearing inner soles that have had it :)

 
Reach in draw pull out first pair I lay my hands on. Put on then go play.

If was going to do a weekender in bog land I might give it a bit more thought but doubt it.

 
I use my old army socks & long johns (winter only) even though my boots are cared for, I have in the past worn plastic bags on my feet for a bit more waterproofing but they keep the heat in (good for standing still for hours)

But now Waitrose, M&S, Sainsburys, etc, all charge for carrier bags!

Those good quality jute material 'bag for life' would blend in more than an orange 5p plastic bag, just less waterproof :) .

We have threads on everything else.

I'm glad I started it, I will be invested in new socks. Because of the aforementioned disability, walking has never been a high priority of mine so I'm quite inexperienced with options available, particularly socks. Having to get every pair of shoes modified at up to £200 per shoe does quite put one off buying [any/specialist] shoes.

Fair enough. But your right, there has been a thread about everything else, why the hell not socks! I'm sticking with M&S.

 
Buy a set a hiking socks, particularly ones that are going to keep your feet warm and dry. Alot of walking socks are breathable as well, so dont think that when they say "warm", your feet are going to be roasting in their own juices all day, even in the summer.

I've hiked up a mountain in Laos in monsoon season (hot and humid) and i owe the fact my feet didn't fall apart to a pair £8 hiking socks bought from Amazon (comes in a pack of 2).

Also if you run with boots a decent thick pair of hiking socks will make all difference between a snug well fitted and supporting piece of gear or a lose fitting, rubbing, blister inducing nightmare.

 
Hiking socks and gel insoles are my go-to. Seriously on the insoles - they work goddamn wonders and are less than £10 for a decent pair on eBay.

 
Engineered socks by Bridgedale, any good mountaneering shop sell them! The best I've ever had were Burton Snowboard socks! Knee high (Never fell down) and lasted me 10 years! 10 YEARS!!!!!!!

I wear a pair of the thick green army cotton socks over the top of a pair of m&s plain black socks. Never get any blisters and my feet are warm and comfortable all day.
