*Question* on 3D printed scope

Is it possible if so has any one had any experience in 3D printing a scope shell and making it functional, building a L129A1 and want it as spot on as possible but can’t warrant spending £1500+ on a Trijicon 6x48 and there are no clones.

ehhhhhh.... I've done kill flashes but a scope itself just looks a bit too complicated. How are you going to source all the innards? Also, unless someone has the actual replica shell/blue prints in front of them, there's no way to reliably make it 1:1 spot on. You're asking for an otherworldly wizard to model this for you.

Without being an actual machinist, optics, specialist diva... i Would say, this has gotta be, nigh on impossible... what you might be able to do, is get yourself a 4x ACOG replica (there are many to choose from) and 3d print a kind of glove in the shape of a Trijicon 6x48 BAC. Maybe in two parts that clip together around the 4x acog.

as mzjango says the best option will be to get an existing scope and make a cladding for it to look like the real thing.

The only way I could see this working without a replica would be to contact one of the Shapeways guys that already produce a 6x48 scaled for models. Then ask if they can do a scaled up to 1:1 version.

You take the 1:1 and make a 2 part silicone mould from it.

Then buy a 4x30 straight scope and float it in the mould before you pour the resin in.

Longwinded, Expensive, Impractical. Very high chance of an unusable scope.

Mmm maybe a straight scope is the simpler way to go...  something like an M16 carry handle scope, though the eye relief on those is very poor.. at least on mine.

I have done a similar thing for a friend, converting a cheap red dot into a Russian red dot. It's doable but not cheap as it takes quite some hours of CAD work, test prints for fitting, etc.

similaarly at some point i want to make a flip up aa style gun sight so some form of post apoc style gun. not sure how well 3d printed plastic would take a bb though...
