Hi all, it's been a while. A little story time first... Had my first li-po fire the other weekend at an event in my 417.

Rifle was on safe and slung waiting for the next game to start when I smell something funny and see whips of smoke coming out the stock... Needless to say stock was removed pronto as the battery had already fused itself to the inside of the stock. Fortunately just the stock was damaged and my pride a little.

No sign of puffiness or damage prior to the game so no way I could have known it was about to happen, but needless to say all my older li-po's are now going to be replaced just in case.

And so here is my question, li-ion batteries how are they these days? Is the performance comparable to a similar discharge rate Li-Po?

I'll always have to use Li-po's in my MCX but considering trying something new, especially if safer.

If the battery wasn't swollen prior to use, that would indicate there is something in the wiring shorting, so probably worth getting the wiring/gearbox checked. LiPo's don't just randomly do that without a reason.

Li Ion's are a noob trap - they don't have output and are more not less, likely than LiPo's to go pop.

Because of where it melted into the side of the stock I do wonder if there might have been mechanical damage when I adjusted the stock in a notch.

Either way I am now rewiring the gun anyway so will be taking a look at that too but thank you for the thought. Really appreciate it.
