Question about Site FPS rule and Weapons FPS

Hello, in one of my topic I saw that one gun has a FPS from 360 and Site rule is 328, now I did not want to go offtopic in there because its all different so I thought making other topic would work better, now the rule of a site very close to me says that its FPS rule is:

All weapons which are not rented are required to be tested using a Chronograph prior to entering the Game Area. Tactical Warfare Airsoft site limit is 328 fps +5% muzzle velocity using 0.2g bb’s, for all airsoft guns, with the exception of bolt action rifles which can fire up to 450 fps muzzle velocity using 0.2g bb’s. Chronograph of bolt-action rifles will use 0.2g bb’s. MINIMUM engagement distance for bolt action rifles is 30 meters.

So when you have a weapon on FPS 360 does that mean you cannot join the site at all or is there way to minimize the FPS?
Could anyone explain this to me? I wouldnt want to buy a weapon with FPS of 360 and then going and got send back because the gun's FPS is higher then the Rule FPS...

All you need to to is either:

1) Cut the original spring down. You just take off a few coils and then chronograph it.

2) Or simply replace the spring. These cost between £10-£15, new (+P&P) or 2nd hand posted.

Which ever way you look at it, unless you have a quick change spring function or adjustable settings (Like the ICS L86's) you will need to open the gearbox.

If you have no experience, or not technical minded, I suggest you get a professional to do it.

EDIT: The reason why many guns are 350+ fps, is because of their manufacture. If made in Japan, they are mostly under 300fps as that's the laws over there.

In China, making a gun is illegal anyway, so they hardly care! But the major customers are the Americans, who consider 400+fps with 30 rounds per second to be "ok"... So a lot of the Taiwanese guns and China guns are built for the rest of he world's FPS restrictions. Just here in the UK we (kinda) have a law on AEGs not exceeding 365fps on Full auto or 550 as a bolt action.

Many sites have it lower due to Insurance policies.

Oh I see so lowering the FPS is string's work, so you could simply, buy a string that would around 328 FPS but you can as well keep the one from the rifle if you want to use it in other sites that has bigger FPS allowing.

It seems easy as I checked up some videos on youtube.

Does every weapon use different spring (layouts) or are they using the same springs?

Different weapons have different gearbox layouts. Some are easier to take apart than others. And then snipers are completely different where the spring is enclosed in he bolt housing

I don't really mind if it will be crappy because with FPS rule this is only one gun I have found with 320 FPS and there very low airsoft shop population in my area + I dont have much to spend on a good rifle, waiting to get responds from places I gave CV's and no luck so cannot really spend 300 or 200 on a quality and I think this will be good rifle enough for me to have as first.

You mentioned in an earlier post two guns that you wanted but they were over the FPS limit for your local site. Before going for what you may consider `second best', why not phone the shops selling your favourite guns and ask if they will downgrade the FPS to your site limit?

They may want a small fee for doing so but they will want the sale so should do it for not too much money. Our local site is XSite at Lane End and they have a couple of guns on their website with a note that the FPS will be downgraded when they sell it.

You can buy a decent gun for around £150 and the guys on this forum will be able to guide you to the best makes for a particular type of gun. I know a lot of people say that G&G are good for M4s but not sure who they recommend for AKs.

When a website says what the FPS is, don't believe it. It can be off by miles because shops rarely actually measure the FPS of what they sell, they just write on the website what the gun's manufacturer said. Which is also often wrong.

For example, I bought an M4 a few months ago which said it was 360 fps (my site limit is 370) but when it came it was shooting over 380!

I changed the spring on site to one I had bought just in case (a low power one, rated for 330fps) and IT STILL fired at over 360.

The gun's bloody mental and it's a pain in the arse lol.

Basically, buy whatever gun you want, ask the shop to chrono it for you and if it turns out shooting hotter than your limit, ask them to downgrade it for you, they'll probably do it for around £20, some shops might even do it for free.

If you want excellent customer service and continual support throughout the life of your gun, buy it from Patrol Base, they're hands down the best shop there is for customer service.

The other day my mate ordered a bag of springs from them for his AK gearbox, they sent him the wrong thing by accident (worth more than 4 times what the springs were worth) and when he rang to tell them, they told him to keep the part they sent wrong! AND they got the springs to him for the very next day! So he ended up with a £15 part he didn't even ask for, and a bag of springs, all for about £4 lol

If they don't have the gun you want then they'll also order it in especially for you, just email them and say you want 'X' gun and they'll order get it for you and give you a price, then you'll be able to get them to sort it whenever it breaks, for a fee obviously. They have very reasonable prices, good delivery times and as mentioned (which I can't big up enough) their customer service is unparalleled.

Now where's Dave? I ought to get some sort of freebie for that level of business promotion xD

Thanks everyone, but my problem is budget, I won't have good one unless I get a reply from one of the jobs, but nevertheless I really appreciate everyone helping me out to get into airsoft!

I heard that M4's are the best as beginner guns but I have that kind of "love" to AK's...

FPS isn't everything either, when you say "I can swap it out for a higher spring if the site limit is higher" you really don't need to.

Keep it at 330 and you'll be fine with your hop set.

Really is no need for the extra 30 or so FPS, does nothing noticeable.

Truly mate, don't buy a gen 1 SRC gun, especially if you have a low budget, because you'll soon need to fix it or send it off to be fixed.

I love AK's too.

Get a CYMA AK and get the shop to downgrade the spring for you. That's your best bet by far.

Here's one. AH charge £40 to downgrade though... makes this £165

Actually, Namaco, AK's have version 3 gearboxes which are really easy to take apart and not that hard to put back together. The only fiddly bit is getting the trigger back in, but I can give you step by step instructions if you like because I've put loads of different parts in my own AK gearbox and I've got it down to a fine art now lol!

Everybody in the airsofting community is really friendly and welcoming, but for me, Patrol Base was especially helpful for me as a beginner.

They downgraded by dad's CYMA AK-47 for free and whilst they were doing that they realised it had a bit of a faulty gearbox. He fixed that too.

My MP5K PDW was having a few problems and I didn't like to seem like a big newbie so I tried to figure out what the problem was, turns out it was very likely to just be a problem with the battery, but I took it in anyway for their opinion so they soldered it up, but it was a crap battery (they say that the batteries that come with guns are usually very bad, that's why more expensive guns don't even come with any) and they gave us another for free.

If you don't live near there, you can obviously order offline, but it is better for me because I live about ten minutes away from the shop itself (In Milnsbridge, Huddersfield)

Also, CYMA make the best AKs in many airsofters opinions. Ours is great (even though it had that 'lemon' gearbox, it is very accurate and has a good RoF)

I wouldn't get an SRC either, and I understand airsoft is expensive, you'll just have to wait a bit longer, it'll be worth it when you can get a better gun.

(I wish I actually had a job, when I'm 18 and I've got my own UKARA defence I'll owe my dad like £200 but I will afford a better gun that's like £300)

Remember:

Probably might want to get a new battery, as aforementioned, they're usually not great quality.

If you don't have UKARA, it'll cost extra for two-toning. (£10-£15. When you get UKARA, buy Kyrlon, it's £7 and is arguably the best)

If it's over the site limit then Patrol Base might do it for free like they did for us - but IDK because I remember seeing a sign a while back saying that downgrading would cost ~£20-£30!
