Proud new owner of a TM 416 Recoil!!! :) any advice?

As the title states I have just bought a Tokyo Mario HK416D Recoil.

Question is other than changing the batteries which is being done as it is in the shop going under work. Whilst its being worked on is there anything that anyone would suggest I do to it or just leave it stock?

Congratulations. I only changed the batteries to 7.4v LiPo with deans connectors, and left the rest as stock. I may upgrade barrel and hop rubber next year but it works well enough and so no point replacing parts this soon. It may not shoot as far or as fast as other guns, but it is a thing of beauty.

I have purchased a foregrip, rear sling mount, sling, flashlight, rail covers, scope and scope protector, but apart from that it is just as it came out of the box. Have added one hi-cap and three low-cap magazines, and using Blaster 0.25g BBs.

Yeah I am having it rewired to the same as yours. I bought it with 4 low cap magazines so its 5 in total. I'm going to have some serious fun with it! Cannot wait!

Lipo conversation is all you really need. Another easy upgrade would be a decent tight bore barrel (prommy, pdi) will give a bump in fps.

Welcome to the club! It will not disappoint.

+1 on the lipo conversion.

Reliability, accuracy and quality is far better than higher FPS. A 416 is more of a CQB rifle anyway so will only be able to upgrade 30 more FPS which isnt very difficult. If you do want to upgrade internally have a well known tech do it for you.

I suggest you use it for atleast a good 5+ skirmishes as stock and decide what you would like improve from there.

Treat it good and keep it clean... it will not let you down.

@alex34 yeah I have had the lips conversion. It's being delivered tomorrow and I cannot wait!!

I will be taking it to the mall in reading ASAP !!

I think your right I will take it out a few times and see how it goes. I know they will out range most 350fps guns and shoot a lot more accurately.

Also what's your thoughts on the Tokyo Marui tracer unit? Yay or nay?

I have mixed thoughts on adding a tracer unit to my 416. On the plus side, they do look good on the gun, it is cool to watch as tracer BBs arc through the dark, can be used to direct team fire "watch my tracer", and shows when hitting other team. On the negative side, tracer unit adds extra length to gun for CQB (I took off the 4" barrel extension to make it 10"), even when you see your tracer hits other team may not always call them, getting reliable and cost effective BBs in good weight. At the moment it is a piece of kit I can live without but if I did buy one it would be the TM version.

As Jedi says tracers are a double edged sword.

Upside;

Looks great in the dark and easy to see what your hitting.

Downside;

Ammo is more expensive. If trying to be sneaky they give away your position.

There is nothing more annoying than watching your tracer rounds bounce of somebody who doesnt call they are hit.

Tm tracer is a good unit

B&T tracer ok and cheaper

Xcortech tracer best of them all.

The Xcortech X3300W tracer unit with counter does look the mutts nuts. I like the counter function, to parody (badly) a well known film - "Did I fire 81 or 82 BBs, are you feeling lucky punk? Make my Day!"

I have the TM tracer on mine... love it. It does add length but ditch the 4" barrel extension and you will be fine. It won't be too long for The Mall but smaller places like Bunker 51 etc, will be an issue.

You will need a 1" extension if you ditch the 4" barrel because of clearance. Madbull makes a good one which is counter clockwise to counter clockwise.

BBs are more expensive but not massively. Blaster make a good tracer round that is sold at almost every airsoft shop in the UK.

I'd leave it stock, or if you do fancy changing parts be careful with what you change. You could quite happily spend 100s on parts from Eagle6 only to realise it's barely done anything, or has made the performance suffer. It isn't exclusive to TM recoils but it's pretty terrible to see, especially as they perform well stock.

I replaced the barrel and hop rubber on my HK416 after a year or so. It possibly made the performance slightly better, but in hindsight i'd have probably left it alone if it wasn't also a case of me learning how to take it all apart.

If you are going to get any work done by a tech i'd recommend using one that specialises in them(think there's a list on Eagle6 for starters). I had some work done a while back on my TM Recce rifle and they don't just go and throw all the internals in the bin and sell you the most expensive stuff going because it doesn't necessarily lead to the best performance.

They all have an off switch. Its just faffing around in gloves with those little switches is a pain in the arse. Also the best places to be sneaky are the dark places where tracers look best. I just replace sneaky with fast and aggressive.
