Need help for first airsoft gun.

Hi there. i'm having a bit of trouble, i have been going around the internet (forums, youtube etc.) to try and find the best beginner airsoft gun. I have been airsoft 3 times in the past 4 months, once to a woodland site, and the other two times were urban/cqb. i like both types equally. i just need to know what your (by "your" i mean the airsoft community) recommendation would be for a beginner like me. I have saved up £200 and in need of help. Thank you. :lol:

As above pretty much. There is lots of choice available though and many are brilliant starter guns, so a lot of it is really personal preference.

But what brand? I keep hearing Combat Machine G&G is brilliant, or Tokyo Marui is awesome, and ICS and CA are top, then for G36c's I hear KWA, SRC etc. I quite new to airsoft and the forums.

I'm biased but I went for the SRC G36C.

Knowing what I know now, I'd still buy the SRC ;-)

I would recommend AEGs that are good upgrade platforms, to give you more options for the future. Most AEGs can be easily upgraded, but KWA, Classic Army, Ares and Systema guns use proprietary parts which make them difficult to fully upgrade. JG, Cyma, Dboys, KS etc are good options for a lower budget. If you're not really bothered about upgrades, just get the one you like the look/feel of as they're all very similar.

for a good m4 that you can add things to upgrade and will last id go for (and i did go for) a ics-49 M4 ris great little machine a tad front heavy but in all things considered its grand for a first gun or even a permanent gun B)

I'd go with Craig on this one. Get an ICS M4 with a RIS front end, great quality and room to add things like flashlights etc. as you have more cash available.

The reason I'd go ICS is the split gearbox, you get a couple of advantages.:

1) It's really easy to work on the ICS gearbox vs a regular one because of the split design.

2) Looks like you play a mix of woodland and CQB. With an ICS you can essentially have 2 guns in one. You can buy a second upper gearbox and tailor it to meet your site FPS limits. So you could have one set up for 350fps for woodland, then one set up for 300fps for CQB (as examples). Pop out one body pin and swapping between the two takes less than a minute.

You usually get the doubters who will claim that you can't get parts for ICS guns and they aren't standard. The gearbox is unique, but it takes standard internals. Plus there are at least 2 major ICS suppliers in the UK who stock almost every part you'll ever need (Fire Support and ZeroOne) As for the externals, a surprising amount of accessories fit straight away. Most other parts take a bit of modding, but will go on with a bit of work if you really want them.

G&G Combat Machine or ICS Sportsline, both are phenomenally good for the price, though the G&G probably comes out on top in terms of value for money. You can get either the GR or CM versions, the GR comes with a blowback system which is neat, but not really neccessary and really only one more thing to break. The CM series is exactly the same but without a blowback system and for the money you cannot get a better gun. I don't own an ICS but have used one and with less experience in that field I can only speak for G&G. I bought a CM16 Carbine to use as a project gun and at £120 you can't get a better gun, good range, firepower, accuracy, externals, internals etc. In hindsight I would have spent the extra £15 and bought the Raider which has rails but the G&G CM16 Carbine is a fantastic piece of kit which I can heartily reccommend.

So it looks like it's either G&G Combat Machine M4 or the Sportline ICS M4 RIS.
