i am under 18 and i would like a airsoft gun for private use on a large private field that i own just to play with my mates, ive looked into some laws and they are very vague should i get my parent to buy a two tone gun or should i get a non two tone gun and what are the consequences if i do??

Presuming you are in the UK

Your parents will not be able to buy a non two tone (RiF) unless they have UKARA registration so the only option at the moment is two-tone.

It may be disappointing but its easier to show they are toys if someone sees you playing in the field.

You have to make sure BBs do not leave the area of the field and you must stop play if someone is nearby who can get hit with a BB.

Oh, and make sure you and friends have good eye protection.  That can get serious real quick.

Control of safety is the main issue

I’d recommend against it

Next depends on how private your private land is

Keep your distance from boundaries etc, and ensure you are not overlooked 

Ensure your ‘private’ land is not business related - often farmers children want to play on their ‘private’ land, but then it turns out to be publicly accessed land for the business of farming, such as milk lorry drivers 

You can legally own a 2 tone IF (unless you are much younger than 18)

You (and your friends) must be responsible with that IF

While ownership of an IF for a minor may be legal as a gift from a parent to their kids for example, the implication is that it would be used in the presence of a responsible adult.

As implied, it only takes one moment of fooling about to escalate very quickly to a life-changing injury or worse.

Even on private land, you can be held liable for any injuries that happen and I don't imagine you or the land owner have a liability insurance policy protecting you.

I don't want to rain on your parade as I am glad to see future generations of airsofters join the sport. I just think you're better off playing at an insured skirmish site or a shooting range for the point of safety, even if there's a cost to it.

You're asking on an airsoft dedicated forum how to circumvent the law.

End of the day, you need to be 18 to buy an if (aka 2-tone) and 18+defence (eg ukara) to buy an rif (ie the "proper" gat).

As an airsoft forum, as much as we agree that the law sucks, newslines such as "kids play with REAL looking GUNS and one loses an eye, parents are SHOCKED" aren't a good look for our hobby, and we're one civil servant with an axe to grind away from losing our toys at the best of times.

Technically, a parent/guardian can "gift" you a pew from 14, but depending on your parents views, this probably isnt an option.

The best path for you, is to look at renting a pew at a local site, if possible get a parent to join in, best case scenario they'll get hooked and be buying their own pews, that you can "borrow" come next game day. Worst case scenario, you'll have a real airsoft experience to decide if this game is for you, which is might not be, and that's also ok.

We all know how you feel, many of us were right where you are wanting to play but being limited by one reason or another, it sucks, but there's no good way around it.
