M4 for starting player

So after Saturdays skirmish I have decided that I would rather have an M4 over a G36 due to parts and compatibility and general coolness. I know i want an M4 but I am not sure which brand is best for me . I want something which meets these criteria:

Cheapish(I.e £300 ish at max)

Reliable

Parts easy to find and compatible (It's an M4 this is stupid i know)

Adaptable for both Woodland and CQB (mostly woodland for now)

Good quality

Easy upgrades

yeah a G&G rifle will set you well if you want an AEG. you can get a good rifle +upgrades + spare mags & batteries for under £300.

With your budget there are lots of G&G Top Techs to choose from. pro aiorsoft carry a good range - see link:-

Some of the guys at proairsoft play at the Xsite lane end site which is woodland but with some cqb areas so they should be able to advise which ones are most suitable.

A longer barrel might give you slightly more range but is more cumbersome in woodlands and for cqb so a shorter barrel might suit better (or a bullpup).

nice bit of kit. They are what we tend to reccommend to new players on a budget.

the RIS and body is plastic, which some people tend to avoid (tbh, the only downside on that rifle is the lack of any weight, which I can only see as a benefit)

If you have the cash to splooge a little, I'd go for a top tech.

Or you could get that rifle, some PMAGs, batteries, tightbore, nice shimming job 'the works' as it were all in budget.

Maybe look at the king arms stuff. I love it, those that use it love it, but you would be right at the top end of your budget, leaving very little (if any) for mags, batteries and sights

I've been looking at every review on you tube I can find and checking the Airsoft site on Google, and found this Gun manufacturer, DyTac (Dynamic Tactical) the review looks very good, 1 years warranty for any internal break downs and the dismantle vid shows a lot metal gears (not great on the terminology yet)see vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfnjCMiGRwA

I went for the Combat Machine range of the G&G's as a cheaper starter M4 – It's the G&G CM16 Raider (Short Barrel / CQB version) to be precise. I am blown away by the performance and quality for £135.00 and I'm still running stock parts and I keep up with the big boys easily.

My upgrade plan is like so:

1. Hop up rubber, 'H' nub and a tightbore barrel - Super easy to upgrade!!!

2. Much better torquey motor, 13:1 gears and a higher voltage Lipo to go with it.

You could do number one above, with mags, 7.4v 2000mah Lipo battery and charger for under £300. I'm not experienced enough to be sure but that setup would be better than it would spending an extra £100 on the gun itself.

Yeah.....i went for the gr15 which has blowback...it cost £180 and I have recently bought thicker wire (18awg),8mm bearings,madbull 6.01 tightbore barrel and a gate nano active brake mosfet for about £100 all in....its a match for some of the so called better brands...next up 13/1 gears,bb spring guide,she high speed motor.....

Looks sweet, haven't heard much about them, but I had a look at their HydroDipped parts. Look's like a good company, maybe wait a few months till some more people get them and hear some reviews

I rang Socom (the only UK supplier) last night interesting feed back, the warranty is for 12 months as long as you don't open it up, you send it away to Dytac and they fix it.

They have been out since Nov 2011, so not sure why there's not more reviews, unless multicam is not that popular? but they do Black.

He did say however because your using 11.1 litho which the gun is designed to take, you should only press the trigger on full auto for a second at a time others wise it may damage the internals....is this normal?

I understand short bursts but just surprised only a second?

G&G m4 Does sound like a good idea, I imagine the upgrading is a good way to get to know your gun inside and out, and part of the fun of Airsoft - decisions decisions

Playing again this weekend will ask the guys for any thoughts, I have 2 month's before I can buy.

Need protective gear and Camo's etc to work out too, all good fun

The thing is AEG's do require maintenance and a decent understanding on how they work in order to keep it in good shape and from braking. The warranty issues are somewhat moot because they need to be maintained, at least in my opinion. I'm sure many others wholeheartedly agree too. Plus the M4's gearbox designs have been exploited to the max in terms of reliability and ease of use and by that I mean opening them up. I would argue that you don't need a warranty unless you want to keep it stock and not use it much.

I'm still a noob but I do understand the mechanics of my M4. I know that because my piston is made from plastic rather than metal it isn't going to burst through the gearbox or shatter and break everything else in it's vicinity if things go terribly wrong. All the parts that I would ever need to replace are cheap unless you go for the expensive 3rd party parts. For that very reason I don't need a warranty. Do remember that Warranties in the UK are worth shit. It's the Sales of Goods Act that really protects you, even if you modify a product.
