It's not quite a 'character' in the same sense as Al Murray/The Pub Landlord, but it's an exaggeration for sure. I'm not his bezzie mate by any stretch but I've accumulated a few hours chatting in his workshop; my personal estimation is that it's a venting or representation of the accumulated annoyance at crap airsoft guns and crap airsofters he's been dealing with as his full time job for 20 odd (? +) years, as a site owner and tech. Personally, I'm genuinely surprised he's not changed career path before, but he's said he's been close a few times in videos, I imagine the positive aspects just about outweigh the negatives - which tbf is a bit easier to happen when it's your primary income source vs just a sunday game for the rest of us.
Like infantry blokes don't love digging ditches in sennybridge in winter, but some still serve 30+ years (obviously there's less digging after some years but anyway).

I won't comment on things he's told me to my face but not aired publicly, obviously he shows he likes a beer or rum (which I may well do myself in his job), but I can say with a decent degree of confidence that the mannerisms and how he acts are nothing to do with any sort of drug/s. There are other factors that are not any sort of bad decision he's made in life.

Met Al Murray while re-enacting several times, and talked at length on many different WW2 subjects, normally commandos.
The pub land lord is 100% a character, he never swears is super polite and honestly just the nicest nerdiest person going.

Al Murray really is a nice bloke. I went to a book talk with him and James Holland. Two great guys and really do enjoy their history. Also went to see him many times as the pub landlord and was picked on once and was a good laugh, he even is open on how much of a character the landlord is.
