I’ve replaced it with another pre-owned one but wouldn’t mind fixing it purely on a sentimental level, it was my first pew and it’s been around for about 6 years.

So, what’s wrong with it…

It fires full auto on safe (?????) and semi, yet ironically doesn’t fire at all on auto. The gearbox hasn’t been opened for a few years and this fault has only just recently started. When it’s fired on “safe”, the trigger gets stuck briefly.

I’m not sure what to even start looking at, so any advice is massively appreciated!

V3 fire selectors can be fussy and fragile.

Look at all the weak points on that bad boy! It might have snapped, or hopefully it's just that the toothed part at the rear has disengaged from the turny-part of the fire selector switch.

If it's the latter, then it might just be a case of pulling the gearbox/pistol grip out and putting it back together again.  Take down isn't particularly complicated, here's Skylar covering it.  IIRC (and I may not), you might not even have to take the barrel out in order to wiggle the gearbox out, just the cross-pins, magwell, and the bolt at the rear of the gearbox.

Sadly the fire selector is still in good condition, I initially assumed it was broken too.

I'm guessing it's an internal issue somewhere, may just end up putting it to the side for a while and getting the money together to send it off to a tech and let them deal with the hassle ?

Is it really worth it for such a budget blaster? For the cost of a 'tech' you may as well buy another gun.

I would be using it as a learning experience on how to tech your own gun. Worst case is you bag up the bits and stick it in the boneyard if you can't get it working.

The selector plate has more meat on it that that one I think, it's shorter with a smaller slot in the middle, not indestructible tho. Selector levers do die tho.

You'll need to pull the gearbox and have a look through the spot in the plate and see if it's all there.

Is it really worth it for such a budget blaster?

As I said, I’ve had it for years and used it extensively. It was my first airsoft gun so I’d like to get it running again. I get that they’re cheap, but I’d rather spend the cost of a new one on making this one the best it can be. 
 

Maybe I’m just too sentimental for it? ?‍?

I am however going to use it as a chance to learn about the internals. 
 

So far I’ve got my eye on a Perun AB++, or the Hybrid V3 (Other alternatives appreciated) & changing the piston to a 15 full metal tooth.

Currently I’ve:

Changed the hop rubber to a G&G Green rubber

Replaced the inner barrel with a slightly longer (by 15mm) 6.03mm guarder (iirc) that I had laying about

Replaced the selector plate with the SHS one

Is there anything else worth changing out in a very old, well used gearbox?

If you want to solve the full auto issue you will have to look at the cut off lever which is moved by the selector plate and sits inside the gearbox on the left hand side. You will see the lever being moved as the plate slides back and forth lifting it slightly with the two ends of the lever going to the moving part of the trigger contacts and the sector gear.
