ICS L85A2 parts advice

Hi all,

Looking at doing a bit of work on my L85A2 by ICS. My intention was to follow the build from the review on these forums but unfortunately I've discovered several parts used are now discontinued. As a result of this I'm looking for suggestions for alternative parts of comparable performance and quality.

• Systema Hop rubber - discontinued
  
• Big Out H Nub -  Hop nub - unavailable from fire support so will have to look at alternative or elsewhere.
  
• Systema High torque motor - discontinued
  
• Systema V2 Cylinder head - discontinued
  
• Systema V2 Aluminium piston head - discontinued
  

Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone has additional recommendations or suggestions would be welcome. I'm looking at possibly re-shimming the gearbox. I'm not sure if this is needed but I figured it's a chance to do some general maintenance.

The only other think I was looking at was the possibility of a MOSFET but space is at a bit of a premium and I've heard the above upgrades/changes improve response dramatically so may not be necessary.

Hi!

Ive played around alot with these great guns.

Have you got the earlier version gun with the turbo 3000 motor?

If so it is a great little motor and unless it fails i would not change it, assuming your FPS will be in 330-360 range.

To make these shoot really well you do not need to do a lot, internally they are great standard, i would fit;

Prommy 6.03 barrel 450mm

Support the barrel / tape it

Custom fit hop arm

Custom nozzle

Flat hop setup and or big out / concave type nub, Maple Macaron or TRU hop for ease.

Airfet or Gate equivalent MosFet

Re-wire 16AWG / DEANS

High quality LiPo

There is plenty of space to mount the mosfet in the upper reciever above the barrel / trigger

It is an earlier model with the 3k motor in it.

At present the FPS with hop off and spring in highest tension with .2's is 310fps average.

Battery wise I'm running a decent 7.4 Li-Po but this seems to be lacking. I'm contemplating changing it to a 9.9v Li-Fe.

I'm not sure how/where is get a custom hop arm. I'm still learning a lot of this at present.

Barrel wise I've ordered the madbull 6.01 510mm tight bore.

Again, I'm a bit stumped on where to begin with custom parts :/

Good, thats a decent motor.

FPS loss will likely be either hop air seal or aged spring.

Fit the new hop / bucking / barrel parts first and see what FPS is then.

You will gain a lot of ROF and response from a rewire and a MosFet, so stay with the 7.4V ATM.

I would advise against a Madbull 6.01, if you can change / return that order i would

Regarding the re-wire, would I be correct in assuming that would putting together a replacement custom wiring loom?

Do you have recommendations on the MosFet front for the L85A2? Given the potential FPS loss from spring age, would you suggest a new spring?

I don't know how compatible they are (Seeing as they're modeled after the same gun I'll assume they should be similar/the same) but I used a Burst Wizard 3 mosfet in my G&G L85, although this is a blowback rifle.

I got a 509mm Madbull Black Python ver II TBB @ supposed 6.02 or 6.03mm

IT'S F*CKING $HIT !!!!

It f**king ain't a 6.03 but a crappy duff barrel that most bb's got stuck in

I ended up using a zci 509mm barrel instead in a AK - and I wasn't happy

I bought it from fleabay a while back - now I found out why guy sold it

Seriously, if you want it for £20 posted it is yours

But I promise you I will end up buying another 509mm ZCI instead

(don't blame me if you get pi$$ed unjamming the thing)

I tried to chrono a build and 4 out of 5 bb's got stuck or dribbled out on low fps

bucking lips were allowing bb to pass so it wasn't that usual issue

Must be poor QC like some have said

ZCI did what it was supposed to no problem or jams - go figure

(plus I think the ZCI or TomTac was a 6.02mm barrel but didn't jam ???)

imho the MadBull($hit) barrel's QA or QC slipped and a smidge tight/burr

or stuff like that or a too tight longer barrel will just jam up easy

I mean even rolling a few usual bb's down the barrel just got stuck

I expect this on say a 6.01mm or something way too tight

but 6.03mm - really when the ZCI just did what it said on the tin

Not being funny, but I got the impression that with this junk barrel

even some ultra precise bb's runs the risk of jamming

you would have to probably do that tumbling thingy majig or whatever

that thing where they keep rotating/turn stuff over & over in a drum/cylinder

to arrive a much finer polished and spherical balls etc.....

Seriously some batches are iffy people have said and I too can confirm this

Apart from that is it lovely barrel with very low use (for some reason)

Maybe chop it up and make 2 or 3 short less clogging barrels out it ???

PS no BS, I do actually have one, not just saying what I read

This barrel suffers from more jamming than Bob Marley - we jamming....

actually almost as bad as the printer at work.....

The Madbull barrels really are sub standard.

The best budget upgrade barrel is a ZCI, Prommy next step up.

Or if available a standard TM barrel is great too.

Yes wiring entails a whole new harness made of high quality wire that can carry more amps, same with connectors used.

The AB Airfet available on eBay is more than capable for this gun.

More expensive is a Gate PicoAAB. Does same job.

There are many others with extra features if needed

Probably wouldn't hurt to replace the spring if you know the gun is old

DEANS.....

if you are still using small tamiya trying to squeeze out more zest

then slap yourself around the face - best upgrade bang for buck

heck if you are a tight ar$e you can desolder them and reuse when you rewire

just use them if you can solder, or get a friend to help you

(then when he is finished soldering he can slap you around the face too)

LiFe - wouldn't bother, stick with a decent 25c or 30c 7.4v

(cheaper, easier to source and imho LiFe is way over rated, didn't notice owt myself)

Stop worrying about brand parts like Systema MadBull

Stock cylinder head is fine, if it seals well with ptfe then why bother imho

Must be that contagious abrupt Triggered syndrome we all suffer from at times

I blame that happy go lucky Mall mofo chap from Reading

It is a little contagious I guess but abruptness can occur in most chilled people

I get a little less chilled when people think they need to spend loads on expensive medication/parts to help with poor symptoms in themselves or their toy guns. I mean they can spend their money on expensive treatments if they like but it is the quality of care/parts also that assists recovery/fps

Doctor Duck can only see people if they have an appointment though.....

Nahhhhhh, I'm still chilled, just sometimes you need to emphasize a point greatly for it to really sink in

Just re-wired my L85 yesterday, managed to fit a Gate NanoHard just above the trigger.

I made 2 looms, soldered the 16awg (component shop) silicone wires to the motor (coloured heat shrink over the solder joins), ran it to a male deans where it plugs into the rear of the Gate Mosfet, then made a short female to male deans loom from the Gate Mosfet to the front handguard. 

The small black trigger wires also run from the trigger switch to the Gate Mosfet and run that in some clear heat shrink with the rear main wiring.

I haven't got any pictures of it as I've sold that long ago...

Basically I got 16awg silicone wiring from components shop here in the UK, directly soldered to the motor terminals (as the wires have to be soldered on at a right angle) then just install the gearbox into the lower receiver, run the wiring to the front of the trigger mechanism, to where the Gate nano MOSFET is and solder deans. I used 24awg silicone wiring from trigger and terminated that too with female 2-Way header pin plug.

Easy if you're good at soldering
