DIY TRACER UNIT

Hi All,

Has anyone tried to make their own tracer (apart from me)?.

I have used 5050 405nm uv led's but they are not strong enough to light them up more than a foot out of the gun,what UV less should be used

use white light instead, proper tracer units use flash bulbs.

UV leds work fine, I made one or two. The position of the leds matters a lot.

Do you use tracer BBs? I've seen people using normal BBs with tracer units expecting it to work.

Yes used the tracer BB's had the uv led in the silencer and 3no in the small gap where the mag enters the grip on my block 18c but it made little difference.

searched the web and the 5050 seem to be the brightess i could find but now looking at car white led's as they look brighter

In the silencer? That's no good. The BB passes way too fast there, it won't have time to absorb the light. In the silencer you need a flash (like the one for photographers) with a circuit to charge and discharge it.

UV leds are for hopup tracer units, or tracer magazines. Even the tracer mags aren't the best because the BBs lining up in the hopup lose their light, so the first few won't be glowing.

What gun is it? I've seen HUTUs in aegs and aeps.

I used zennon ice white less in my angel eyes when they blew years ago they are bright as hell.

I'm just playing with a block 18c as I've notice that where the mag slides in there is a small recess that allows the fitment of the LED strip( batt mod to be confirmed) without jamming any BB's. Even with the LED in the magazine it didn't light up . I have ordered some white LED to try, Once it works plan to insert into M4 mag. Iv'e seen on youtube about drilling the hop up but don't think thats for me just yet.
