CQB sniping?

They allow snipers on the roof at The Stan. It's not like ordinary sniping though because people can't shoot up at them or have firefights up there. I spose it depends on how big the spaces are.

You could, but it would be very silly to. You need to be able to go around tight corners quickly, and long barrelled snipers are a no-no. Also, I think if it's semi auto it wouldn't be very good in a CQB environment either.

Mate of mine took a full length tacticool M14 to Tac House: Spartan the other week. Didn't seem to slow him down or hamper his movement to any noticeable degree.

Most sites have a MED for snipers of about 30 feet. Generally this allows a higher velocity to be used, and so in many peoples thinking increased range (though range is nothing without accuracy, and at long ranges the BB is not a very accurate projectile). Most CQB combat takes place at very short ranges (hence "close quarters" ) and so most of the time you'll be within the MED, and hence your expensive sniper becomes nothing more than a heavy, unwieldy encumbrance.

Also most CQB sites will have a velocity limit of 330 or so FPS (1 joule of muzzle energy, give or take) and so your sniper gains nothing over the AEG's and gas guns with semi and full auto, rather than bolt action or similar. Add to that the often limited magazine capacity, and the lack of opportunity to shoot from concealment and taking a sniper to a CQB site makes little or no sense.

If you want a challenge, use you AEG with real caps, and stick to semi auto everywhere, and test your stealth to get kills!

would a spring rifle be good? as i seriously love SA80 rifles and the only ones i can find are 40 quid springers and then 400 quid GBBs so what im trying to say is if i bought a SA80 springer and put a scope and camo taped it, would it be suitable for skirmish?

a £40 spring sa80 would not be suitable for an airsoft skirmish, unless its a gas and spring day only, like the do at the Mall in reading sometimes.

No it wouldn't. Have a look for ICS, G&G & Ares do AEGs, maybe more.

no new gun for less than £100 (you may be able to get a deal/discount, but i am talking retail) would be good for skirmishing, be upgrade able, be reliable, be well constructed and realistic, have decent fps/range, have spare parts etc.

there is a reason people at skirmishes don't have £40 guns, please don't waste your money. in this life, you get what you pay for

please read the newbie thread on what guns to buy, i highly recommend G&G combat machine range of guns, cheap, but bloody brilliant!! i love my CM16 Raider L.

Like you i would love a L85 (SA80) but i know that the one to get is an ICS (have a look at the review Ed did on his ICS L85)... and at £300+ ... its gunna be a while before i can afford it.

My friend uses his Full length GBB M14 in CQB.

Everyone else is limited to single anyway most of the time so it's not really a disadvantage.

And its got the longest range for most guns that turn up at the site.

Maneuverability is a bit harder but its great for nailing people who try make breaks between buildings.

The only real problem I can foresee is accidentally shooting people inside the minimum engagement distance if they come round a corner or something and surprise you. It might be better to use a carbine length AEG as a primary and carry a sniper rifle on your back as a secondary. One with a folding stock maybe and/or shorter barrel, like a para SVD.

Depends what FPS though. His M14 is under 350fps so no MED

Length isn't such an issue that you can't work with it. I've played CQB with an M16 before, my mate's used a G3. The only advantage of a shorter barrel is that you can round corners with your barrel already raised, or at least raised a lot more than with a long barrelled rifle.

I can walk through doors sideways with my L85 shouldered, but the weight and high profile let it down, so everything has its pros and cons.

Snipers certainly have approximately 100% more cons than pros with regard to CQB though. Even if it's under 350fps so you can get around the MED, you're still limited by it being bolt action, if you only have one shot you want to take your time to line it up, and time is a luxury you simply don't have in CQB encounters. You have less than 1 second to pop out, aim and fire off as many shots as possible before the targets begins to return fire.

Snipers are a no go.

Unless you have real life aimbot and it fires lasers.

Yeah Tariq, same as Coldy's, the bloke I mentioned who also uses an M14.

TBF, the point about range is a good one. To have an advantage you only need to outrange guns set up for CQB; typically short barrelled M100 / 1Joule spring max., so a long TBB with the same spring power is going to do the trick.
