Choosing a new gun.

@Tac Stop Slacking! What about the rest? :P

I'd Honestly just ask your folks for a GR whatever it is you had settled on ;D

The parents could always buy a gun that has been two-toned and providing the son is a regular skirmisher at a recognised site then the law does not prevent him from removing the paint to make it back to a RIF (or buy replacement parts for the painted ones).

I'm not sure that the law would recognise any separation in the ownership of money combined in a single purchase by a parent and a child for whom they are the legal guardian.

You do realise you cant put any money towards it dont you?

or until you get your license!

no such thing
oh ok lets get picky, or until you turn 18 and you are able to register with the UKARA so you are able to purchase a RIF.

everybody knows what you are talking about when your refer to a license or a defence so please dont go around thinking your clever and correcting people.

@Moose: I think Mack has a point, although it could have been expressed in a friendlier way.

"Licence" sounds like there is a legally appointed body to whom we must apply for permission to own a RIF. Using the terminology 'normalises' the idea and once the idea is normalised, the reality can easily follow. Resist 'control-creep'; know the letter of the law and use the correct terminology, I say.

you dont register with ukara, they are a retailers association, you get a site membership who give you a number which they put onto a database. UKARA membership itself is not a legal requirement and a number of retailers will be happy to sell you RIFs after a telephone check to ensure that you are on a site's membership database. The more people keep perpetuating this MYTH about a licence the more newcomers pick up on it and think they need one to buy which is not true.

No ones trying to be clever, but people do need correcting when they are wrong.

edit: as Ian has pointed out, I wasnt trying to be harsh and could have put it better so appologise if it came accross that way.

im not perpetuating any myth, its just terminology. ok well if you werent being harsh then we are all cool, you prob hate people on the internet to who go round correcting the slightest things but i get where you guys are coming from. i know that its not a legal requirement as they arent a government body, they are just trying to cover themselves against the VCA. theres more than enough threads on the forum explaining what it all is and means so yer fair points all round. what term would you chaps suggest then, i have only ever seen license or defence.

"Register with UKARA as a regular airsoft skirmisher to provide a defence against prosecution under the VCR Act" - "Get a UKARA number" - "Get a defence" - "Get a way to prove you are an airsofter" - "Get a site membership" - "Get a UKARA Registered site membership"

I dunno why. "Licence" and "Defence" have the same number of syllables and "Get a" will do in both cases; it's just the meaning which is very different.

dude i was just playing, of course they make sense and are more to the point. i will in future attempt to be more precise in what i mean,

It's still a good gun, especially since it's 20 years old, but my main problem with it is hard to find spare parts. TM still produce the Famas and spare parts but in limited quantities and there is no aftermarket support for it. It's also creaky, akward to hold and mags are expensive.

I'd stay with the G&G G26,personally.

Don't get a famas, it's much too dated now to be worth it. Get something more up to date with readily available spares.

They're uncomfortable to hold, plastic and creaky. Mags are also expensive unless you convert stanags, optics are also a no-go.

(I own one.)

You're much better off sticking with a g&g rifle, albeit not the gr4 g26 because it looks hideous due to it's knock-off magpul furniture and mags.

Oh my giddy aunts, that's a pig ugly gun. Don't do it! You're a young man, you've got plenty of time to try something horrible just because it's different...

really? i think it looks cool....

But anyways, i'm moving away from the gr4 and using it as a last resort. I really dislike m4's despite my comments about the gr4.

Since my budget has increase to around £230 - 250, i can finally move away from the gr4 and i do not want to go back to it. I cannot emphasize enough how much I absolutely hate the bloody, absurd, complete bollocks M4.

With that being said, I looked further into Tm guns and ICS rifles

Ed simply just told me to get what i like.

I have had parts on order for just over a month for my tm famas, no idea when/if I will be getting them.

I have a g&g raider, fantastic gun, great range, and feels very solidly built. Like I have said in the past, there is a reason why m4's are popular, I wanted a l85 or l86 when I started, ill stick with my m4 now ;)
