Chipped Coat Fix for aluminum and steel?

Does anyone know a reliable and long lasting solution to chipped metal parts? I have several areas on my AEG which have chipped off, revealing the shiny metal underneath.  I know painting is an option, but are there any brands or substances in particular which excel at this?

You can get paint pens that do a good job of hiding scratches from birch-wood casey. They're not perfect, but you're only other option is to strip and re-coat the part. 

Remember some parts aren't painted but androzied.
