Biting a MK5 Thunder Flash

Right this sounds a little odd, but I find using pyro bloody difficult, especially when carrying a rifle. Having to sling and use two hands is a pain in the arse. I'm thinking of adding some sand paper onto the back of my pistol thigh rig, that way I can bite the lid off and then strike off my leg with one hand

The MK.5s arn't really known for being reliable.

Im sure it would work though.

If you have a sling i cant imagine it being that hard. just drop your gun to your side and pyro away. Would be quicker and more accurate as your body isnt as unballanced by having the gun in your other hand.

Sand paper wouldn't work. The strike surface on the Mk5 is a similar compound to that on a "safety" match. It's not friction related, you need the proper striking surface. You might get away with cutting the striking surface off a box of cooks matches, or one of those boxes of extra long fire lighting matches.

Biting the cover off might make you feel big, but I can't see it working too well, or being any faster than the traditional twist, strike, chuck. Also striking by your leg you have to take your eyes off the target to make sure the fuse has struck properly, or risk chucking an unlit mk5.

Personally I don't see the win in it.

If you want it to look dramatic, get the pull pin ball pyro!

Sounds reasonable to me, but I'll second the comments on maybe not using your teeth for this.
Also, have you considered attaching the sand-paper on one of the sides of your rifle? That way you can still have the rifle pointing towards the target, should you need to use it.

If you can get the pull ring variety, I've invented something that works really well for me.

I use ALICE webbing so my grenades are on my hips, What I do is tie a piece of paracord to the pin, and the other end to my suspender. I can unbuckle the pop on the pouch with my thumb, and with one movement I can pull the grenade out, yank it away from my body with one hand, which pulls the pin out, and then I can release the spoon and throw it or put my gun down and re-insert the pin

Which pyro grenades use pins? I've seen the solid state Tornado's and BFGs, is there a Pyro variety with a pin?

The TLSFX ball grenades come in strike top (like the MK5) and a pull pin form.

serves the same purpose as a thunder flash I think but is alot more expensive. I only use Frag pyros.

For distraction purposes, I use Thunder B grenades with the set up I describe before.

I have a thunder B grenade, but I'm not allowed to use it at the Mall. When Mark and I tested it out, it went "pop" and shot off at 90 miles an hour, at head height. I think they're ok on soft ground, grass etc. but not good on a concrete or hard floor due to their propensity for bouncing. It might only be plastic, but I really wouldn't want one in the head!

And yes, go to Sainsburys and buy a box of cooks matches. The striking strip should be about an inch wide by four or five inches long, which should give you plenty of space to strike the grenade successfully.

I took a few pictures to better explain what I do.

1. This is the grenade in the pouch



2. The grenade is now in your throwing hand, (this would be my right hand but I had to hold the camera. Also note it would be a good idea to hold the spoon also...)



The cord is secured to the pin by means of a hangmans knot which has an excessive amount of loops to provide a grip for pulling the grenade out of the pouch if needs be. If your pin is in securely, doing this shouldn't remove the pin as it requires much more force.

3. Held at arms length, the cord is taught and pulling on the pin



4. Now with a final flick of the wrist, the pin is pulled and the grenade is ready to throw.

So back to OP, nope not a sensible idea, you are not supposed to be able to keep your weapon aimed while arming and flinging pyro like wiley coyote.

but its up to you, at least you can now get a blood patch that may be of some use to someone down the line.

i remember when you used to get bangers at bonfire night, there was always 1 or 2 ppl a year who lost appendages. that and a few incidents of miss use, resulted in them being banned.

Bloody hell. Sorry to hear that. What pyro was he using? I've had a Thermobaric go off in my pocket and all I got was some singed hair (and a big fright)
