9.6V Nimh on d-boys scar

Hey guys wondering if you can help me. I bought a d-boys scar from someone and they forgot to post the battery with it, so when it arrived I connected my 9.6V Nimh battery to it to check that it worked (other posts on the internet suggest its fine with modifying the internals/connection) but it didn't fire.

This is the message the seller sent me: 'The battery that was to be sent to you expanded (broken) and did not send. I was going to send you another new battery however forgot to mention. You have since attached another battery and possibly shorted the motor. This has been your fault and have broken yourself. Not mine. As stated again I have many others as defence saying it was working. I have sent a working gun and you have broken.'

Is he right and have I just messed the gun up? Thanks guys.

The seller sold you a broken gun and is using the battery you bought as an excuse. The 9.6v battery is perfectly fine to use in a stock gun.

Either blown fuse, assuming it has one or as Monty states, you've been sold a faulty gun. You could "short" an airsoft motor 9.6v battery even if the battery was the size of a house.

How did the seller test the gun prior to shipping if battery was f*cked ???

Witnesses - are these normally used when a version of events is being brought into question

ie - to try and justify the truth and not a lie ??

Unfortunately the guy I got the gun off (Pro_Italian) seems fairly credible; he has a feedback thread and has been reasonably active so I'm really in the blue. He's obviously adamant that I broke his fully functioning gun and I'm pretty damn sure he just sent me a broken gun, especially because he never sent the battery with it and 'forgot' to tell me that he was going to send a new battery, even though i repeatedly messaged him and he refused to answer - perhaps to stop me finding out that the gun didn't work?

There's no way in a million years you could short a motor just by plugging in a 9.6v NiMh, he's sold you a broken gun.

'Broken' is a big range of stuff though, could be a motor connector is loose, which isn't really broken, could be a blown fuse... Also not really broken. Ooor, it could be the motor is completely burned out which IS a broken gun, albeit an easy fix.

It may be that he's sent a working gun that's been banged about in the post and something's come loose, if so fixing it shouldn't be a massive issue. Either way, the suggestion that plugging a battery in is the cause of it being broken is utterly ridiculous.

The problem is if he isn't a scammer and the gun was sent off in working condition, it should be very easy to fix the gun and I would probably be able to open it up and sort it out, but if the problem is big or beyond my skill level, he'll just claim that I broke the gun when I opened it up, exactly like what he's done with the battery, and I'll be left with a broken gun. ?

I posted a usuall epic War n Peace reply to this last night, but fone/post was playing up.....

As jcheesright said it might be something came adrift and could be simple fix to some techy

But to say battery caused this is total bollox, even a modest 11.1v lipo won't strip stuff straight away

(unless it is a high burst 11.1v lipo running a very rapid neodym motor - which I doubt is in there)

Even if battery was wired in reverse the AR latch should prevent the box running backwards

The battery being puffed or blown or whatever was mentioned seems to indicate a lipo - probably 7.4v was reffered to

So a 9.6v nimah is not mega over juicy as most 7.4v lipo's compare to a 8.4v nimah

therefore 1.2v will matter f*ck all......

Forget who the seller is or where they reside or feedback past or present for a sec.....

Me personally, if I had flogged something I would be a little more open minded and helpful to the potential buyer

Trying to suggest or diagnose any possible faults that might have developed in transit or since it left me

(not straight away state it must be something else that seller did)

I try to take great care n pride in stuff I do and would do my upmost to help & try to resolve any issues with my stuff I have sold

Unfortunately on ebay I have had a few "try it on-ers" from ar$eholes with brand spanking new zero feedback accounts

ruining my faultless feedback and freezing my paypal account whilst I deal with some dirty bastid try it on-er c*nt in particular

but even though the ar$ehole kept changing his story in black n white plain writing/messages I still had to fight tooth n nail to defend his bogus claim

Not with standing that previously a guy did have a problem with a product, and he returned it and I replaced this with a better product to compensate

But I won't be taken for a fool if I strongly feel somebody is trying to take advantage of my genuine integrity

Suffice to say I no longer bother selling much on fleabay now as it ain't worth the hassle

Buyers - really need to tread so very cautiously if buying stuff s/hand....

Try to buy new if possible, and always ask questions n gurantees

Ask yourself this - like a car etc......

If the thing is that bloody gun & reliable shooting really perfectly - wtf are they selling it ??

Sellers - if you know the item is really sound and reliable then you should be prepared to offer some modest warranty

say a 2 week one if you wish to stand by your word and assure potential buyers it is as good as you saye

specially if you are getting a decent price for it - or why wouldn't they just buy new instead of your s/hand aeg ???

But a word of caution on both sides for any potential scammers or "try it on-er's"

Soz - but that is how I friggin' roll and what I would like or expect some sales to have.

If all else fails speak to paypal/credit card if nothing can be resolved

keep us informed, just hope you didn't pay too much for it so if all else fails it can be fixed for a modest fee

Perhaps a word of advice to anyone reading this; maybe ask the seller for a video of the gun firing. I have done this before for things i have sold and it proves that it is working when you purchase it. That way you can be sure that it was once working

Some solid advice there gingerbreadman and sitting duck. This was the reply i received:

"I only respond to the dispute as my money has been taken out of the account which is no good. I did not respond on the forums due to not having time as I have told you. I did not manage to read the messages? If anything the battery may have shorted the gearbox or something along the diagnostic path. One defence is from a boy I let borrow it one game day saying it was working fine however when the battery ran out began to misfire. Other from my friend who was shooting it in the garden 'target practicing' both full saying it had been working. If you wish to buy another fuse or send to myself for repairs I will repair for free."

​To put it into context, I asked him why he never replied to me on the forum; i sent him three messages between the 26th and the 29th of August and according to the site, he viewed each message (although he says otherwise) which obviously got me worried that he was a scammer, so I started a dispute in paypal on the 2nd and he replied straight away which seemed off to me as he only cared about the deal when his money was in danger. Obviously now he has two 'witnesses' and has given me a more friendly option; if i post the gun to him, he'll repair it.

For me there are two problems with this, firstly it being that i don't trust him: i couldn't trust him to tell me that he wasn't going to send a battery with the gun, and I couldn't trust him with his explanation of the problem (that being that the battery shorted the motor, which everyone has now debunked) despite him being a self-proclaimed 'tech'. Because of this I don't really want to post him the gun because if he holds on to it and waits for the dispute to expire, I'm screwed. Likewise I don't really trust his defences (how hard is it to ask a mate to lie for you and say that a gun works) or him saying that he never viewed the messages, simply because he doesn't seem like a trustworthy or reliable person. The other problem is that I don't want to have to pay (postage or parts) to fix a problem that shouldn't exist and that I didn't cause. He's still adamant that I caused the gun to break which pisses me off slightly because I'm pretty sure I didn't. Also just an fyi, he said he posted the gun on the 29th of July, but the package was damaged (this is when the battery broke) and the gun arrived on the 26th of August. He never gave me the tracking details so I don't know much about it, but it seems like a suspiciously long time not to tell me about the battery, and it also means that his witnesses/defences refer to the gun quite a while before it was actually posted to me (the postage that resulted in me actually getting the gun).

Thanks for all of the responses so far and any more comments are appreciated, I am thinking about making the dispute into a claim so paypal decides what happens, but I certainly don't want to rush into anything. Thanks guys. And any thoughts on who paypal would side with?

Turn it into a claim on paypal; they should side with you. I would certainly be wary of sending it back as then he has both your money and the gun. Dont forget to leave feedback on here as jcheeseright and monty mentioned

Just to finish this thread off. I escalated it into a claim and paypal came to a decision in less than a day: if I post the gun back with tracking they'll give a full refund, but i have to take all of the costs related to the postage so in the end I lost about £14 and a lot of time (posted the gun today). Thanks for all the help guys, and ill be a lot more thorough when i next buy something.
