Hop unit issues?

What's up?

E&l+cu is a pretty potent combo?

Hop unit is seized solid to the inner barrel.

And being E&L the outer barrel is seized solid to the trunnion so I can't get the inner out without cutting it.

I am so tempted to take an angle grinder and put this shit gun out of its misery, gave me nothing but issues.

Oh dear.

Sure the outer barrel hasn't got a second sneaky grub screw?

I can imagine itd be near impossible to get a cu unit off the inner barrel whilst still in the reciever

Have you tried penetrating oil around the hop unit/outer barrel? Won't do the hop rubber much good if it seeps in, but it might help the metal-on-metal parts free up.

I wonder if there's some galvanic corrosion between the barrel and hop unit. Do E&L use steel outer barrels? I had an E&L for a short time but never checked the barrel.

I would use an old inner barrel, maybe cut down a bit, insert muzzle-end and gently, but rapidly tap the inner barrel/hop backwards with a small hammer to break the hop/outer barrel seizure at least.

e&l outer barrels are steel, but it doesn't sound like the hop unit is stuck to the outer but rather the inner.

penetrating oil for the outer might help, and if the grub screws are out you could try tapping the barrel forwards via the front sight block, not hitting it too hard obv but some taps with a plastic/copper hammer might be enough of a shock to dislodge it.

Ended up cutting the inner.

Trust me it was the only way I could get it off.

Now, there is a very serious issue with this gun, there is no fucking way to make the gearbox sit nicely inside the body AND have it properly connect to the hop up unit.

If I connect the gearbox+hop I can't secure the chamber to the barrel or properly install the selector and pistol grip, if I secure the gearbox and the hop I can't connect the two, if I secure the box and connect the hop without screwing it onto the barrel, mags don't lock in.

I'm so, so tempted to just write the thing off as a waste of money and buy a donor Cyma.

they can be wile tight to setup.

generally speaking i tend to go with: outer barrel to trunnion (but not tightened), gearbox into gun, selector onto gearbox, hop onto gearbox, hop onto outer barrel, grip onto gearbox.

the grip going last tries to pull the hop backwards, in turn pulling the inner barrel backwards, kinda the same effect as tensioning a v2 gearbox with the stock bolt.
