The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

Cracking day on Saturday at Battle Lakes, really good fun. Quite a big crowd in, and the rolling storylined game play of the DEA Vs Cartel theme worked excellently. Marshall's/team leaders had a few side quests up their sleeves to send teams off on in order to keep the play fluid and interesting.

Great hit taking, and sportsmanship all round, and as ever at battle lakes, the slightly more storylined and lengthy games, and huge site lent themselves to impromptu cooperation for patrols etc with random team mates, which always adds a nice social dimension.

Only negative of my creation was that I managed to snap a cleaning rod in the Kar 98 jamming it up before Chrono, but the XM177 and Specna Ak74 both performed superbly and had the range to get some great hits across the expansive site.

So my day yesterday went great.

Myself and a friend turned up a whole month early to an event we’d booked onto. Quite keen to at least try out our new builds we had put together for the day we retired to a garden to “fine tune” a bit.

The ensuing results were a burned out ETU & what appears to be a piston welded to a spring guide in one gun, we’ll find out when we dare open it, and the complete divorce of piston and 3/4 of its rack…..as seen below.

All in all we agreed we’ve still had worse days where we’ve actually managed to play.

Went to quite few feet under ground in darkness where I first started playing airsoft, tried out my new TM Saiga SBS and put it this way it was interesting as it was a lot more different to AEG or HPA, Loved it. Had loads guys running NVGs and thermals which kinda ruined the fun. As I feel like they are items you use more in Milsims than a Sunday skirmish 🤣 all in all it's just too OP, same as when I run LMG with Thermal at night 🤣 but other than that great fun!

So glad you enjoyed it - was a really fun game to plan and organise. So great to see the players getting into it, especially the mini-command structure and the varying missions throughout the day. Plan is to keep this style of game running from now on.

Hey guys,

I know we already have a dedicated section but it's mostly used for site reviews, which I love reading from down here, especially Asomodai's ones, but I reckon it'll get more visibility here.

I'm interested in hearing how your day went, whether it's a simple skirmish, a full day themed event or a hardcore milsim! In particular I'd like to hear anecdotes, something in particular that made (or broke) your day, or even just some venting because of one or multiple unpleasant events, maybe a super long range shot or if you snuck so close to someone you managed to tap him on the shoulder. These kinds of things :)

Lemme start this absolute shitshow by telling you (I don't care if you don't care, you sit there and read) my day.

So, today was the first game after the summer pause, it gets quite warm here in summer and people prefer to roast themselves on a beach rather than play with toy gnus, I was very excited as I took my new specna for a spin.

Due to the relatively low numbers we invited another club to play with us (which from now on will be called "cheater club" but I won't bore you with the explanation), we ended up being 18 people, 12 of us + 6 of them and some randoms thrown in.

The day started well, with the two first games being a little slow paced due to "the others" playing for the first time in the highest part of our field.

Hit calling was generally good until the last three games.

The first one of these three saw me sneaking up to 4/5 metres of an enemy sniper, who was unaware of my presence as he was focused on pinning down my teammates. Flick the gun to semi and let off a couple of shots into the only visible part, the head. Both BBs impacted.

And this is where it all goes to shit.

The guy visibly flinches, turns towards me and ducks into cover, to pop up later with his pistol, but I'm still there waiting, this time with the fun switch on, and let off a small bursts that gets him right in the forehead. Still flinches and dives back into cover. At this point I'm pissed, I hold down the trigger to keep him down while moving to the side to get a better shot, as we were separated by a small ridge. At this point half a flash mag has been dumped. When I get really close to him, must've been 2/3 metres at best, he pokes out of cover and lets off a nice full auto burst from his CO2 pistol in my neck.

I'm not Shouty McYelly, so I call my hit and walk away.

Game ends and the guy comes out of his little trench, bleeding with visible welts on his forehead. Didn't feel bad for a second about it. Also quite a few people were watching the scene so I didn't even need to say or do anything as it was pretty obvious what happened.

The game after I'm on defense, I set up an ambush on a small side path on the left hand side of the objective and spot a 3 man squad coming my way, I let the first one pass and unleash hell on the second and third guy. The second enemy dives into cover while the third, a good 10/15 metres behind the other two, is still in the open, so I instantly direct the fire towards him. Now I'm not 100% sure I hit him as he was a good 40 metres away, but my gun does reach up to at least 55 metres, I was shooting down from an elevated position and the spread was still torso sized.

Nonetheless, the target at first stands still in surprise and then runs away. Meh. Follows a nice exchange of bbs with my club's president (the first guy) but then I'm overran and eliminated.

Still a bit puzzled by this "incident", but again, might have misjudged the distance but it seemed like I did reach that guy, as when the game ended he told me my bbs were zipping past him. The magic of airsoft and round lightweight ammunition.

Then the last game of the day, we send the whole cheater club to defend a small chapel, we as attackers have two advantages. Range, because we are starting from the high ground, and terrain knowledge.

We split up in 2/3 man teams as we always do, my mate and I decide to go on a huuuuge flanking maneuver that gets us behind the objective.

At this point it gets ridiculous:

We emerge out of cover right next to a girl who was looking at the opposite direction, none of us saw her (new nickname, Eagle Eye lol) until she moved a few branches. On the plus side she somehow didn't hear us. Great, let's spread out now so she doesn't fuck both of us up with a single sweep.

Slowly creeping towards her, I flick the gun to semi, wait for my teammate to move a bit and then I pull the trigger....

Nothing, fuck's sake, the gun locked up.

She notices us, turns around to shoot us but we're already behind cover: me in a dip protected by a bush, my teammate on the opposite side of the very tree she was using as cover. I draw my pistol, pop out of cover and fire 4 shots, hitting her in the side of the mask (from 3 metres, clearly saw the bbs hitting) as she was looking at my teammate. I dive back into cover, she turns around towards me and my mate puts 4 bbs in her side while she lets off a small unaimed burst between us. Note that this took some seconds so she had the time to call the hit, but she doesn't until she took my mate's balls (lul).

The hit was called, but suddenly she starts yelling that she hit both of us and ran to cry about it to our club's president.

I stare at my mate, he stares at me, we both shrug and keep playing. We both end up being taken out by her boyfriend, who got himself into a really cheeky position and was almost invisible from where we were (imagine a huge bush with the tiniest of tiny holes in it and a barrel barely poking out, good luck spotting that), good play by him and we complimented.

A rollercoaster of a day, which started with the best premises but ended in disappointment.

How did your day go? Did you have the same bad luck as me? Did you have a great time?
Sounds like an interesting time!

An overcast morning saw me heading off to Airsoft Plantation; as usual, I had two rifles to play with, plus a friend's Specna AK that I had been working on and wanted to check. It performed well, putting out 1.05J with a nice 70m flight.

The day started with the regular sermon from St. John of Billericay, which contained all pertinent acts of which our Lord and Saviour St. Marui of Tokyo would not approve, and a few of which he would.

The first game of the day was a new one to me; starting at the DEA base, we had to transport a small rocket and its launcher to a launchpad, which was at an unknown location in the mortar pits, and launch it. As the attackers, we had infinite regens on a marshal, while the defenders had one life. Most of us pushed down our right flank, quickly taking out the defenders in that area and pushing across towards the centre of the mortar pits. After a stiff fight, we cleared out the defenders and went in search of the launchpad, which we eventually found; a few moments later, the rocket set off on its journey.

In the reverse, I took up a position on our extreme left, from which I rapidly moved forward once the game started, ending up in a spot from which I could deal with anyone trying to force the front left corner of the mortar pits. I found myself in a target rich environment, scoring 23 hits on enemy players trying to rush the corner before I was eventually hit. The Blue team eventually launched their rocket, albeit in a time that was longer that we had taken.

After a short break, the next game required the Blue team, with infinite 30m buddy regens, to attack us in the village. We had two lives and five of our players had yellow armbands; the first time they were hit, they had to drop them and the attackers had to find them and return them to their marshal. They could only attack us from the scrubby woods or the firebreak as far up as the Jurassic Park jeep. I decided to lurk around the Jurassic Park jeep, where we soon had a cracking fight going in which I was eventually hit. Falling back, I joined up with a small group of young rentals and a couple of other regulars on the far side of the village, from where we held up a group of the enemy trying to push through the woods and took out the majority of those who tried to get into the sniper tower, although some of them displayed a slight reluctance to accept that they had been hit; St. Marui of Tokyo would not have approved of their behaviour! When the game timed out, they had managed to recover a solitary yellow armband.

When the game was reversed, a group of use set off to attack via the Jurassic Park jeep, from where we soon pushed into the village, meeting up with our colleagues who had come through the scrubby woods. The defenders put up a hard fight, but we grabbed all the armbands before time ran out.

Luncheon followed; in the morning, the catering team had realised that they had not brought any vegetarian burgers, so went out to get some so that I could have one for my lunch, which was really nice of them.

Once we head eaten, drunk and compared welts and war stories, the next game was briefed. With infinite regens and starting at Long Walk at the far end of the woods, we had to firstly secure a medical pack from the kill house, then grab a stretcher from the Cock Inn in the village and use it to transport a casualty and the medical pack to the Bedford in the mortar pits. The defenders had one life in each area. The attack went swiftly and the medical pack was soon secured; while most of our colleagues set off directly for the border and the village, some of us went on a sweep through the woods, checking that no sneaky enemy players had remained behind to attack us in the rear. A few were discovered and were eliminated after a series of hard fights. Joining up with the rest of our team, we were held up by strong resistance around the fishing hut area but eventually pushed through and grabbed the stretcher; the whole team then set out, rapidly overrunning the enemy and getting the stretcher, with its passenger and the medical pack, to the Bedford.

This game was then reversed. Our defence was strong in all three areas but the enemy, now reinforced by some players transferred from our team managed to grab the medical pack and the stretcher and get it to the Bedford in a time that was longer than ours.

Yet again it was a very good day of airsoft, despite some stupidity from a very small group of rentals who didn't seem to understand basic safety instructions.

Weapons used:
Classic Army ISSC MK22 (because the world really needs a .22 version of the SCAR)
CYMA G36K
ASG XP18 Commander (CO2)

Popped down to the local field today for my fortnightly game over dirty dog. Was really looking forward to an overcast cold day to avoid the becoming a sweaty mess in the first 15 minutes but alas it became roasting hot and sunny ten minutes before the start of game 1! A problem easily solved by dropping down to a t shirt under my plate carrier but was not looking forward to bare arms in a very thorny woodland. Other than the despicable and unwelcome lovely weather it was a bloody good day. First half of the day had about 87/88 of us playing which can be a low turnout for dirty dog but the marshalls adapted the games really well slightly shrinking the usual areas in play to keep it action packed with the lower than usual numbers.

First game had us defending the new fuel dump which the enemy team has to drive us out of and hold for three minutes before they could set off the demolition charges. We got dug in really effectively and mounted a solid defence straight away. Playing medic meant I spent more time keeping others in the fight than shooting but it was great fun and due to the other teams desire to only charge us head on we got a solid win despite some risky moments and good pushes.

Standard cqb game in the village followed which is where my first problems with cyma midcaps started which plagued me all day. I don't know why but in my cyma high speed ak the mags constantly miss feed and jam almost appearing to get caught up and blocked in the feed track (any fixes people know about hit me up). So I left early to try and fail to diagnose the issue/eat.

Last game for me was a change around from the morning game. By this point the numbers had dropped after lunch but it was still up there with my list of best skirmishes. Since a full frontal attack failed for the attackers this morning a group of us decided an attack on the rear was what the doctor ordered and we skirted through the village to charge down the hill behind the fuel dump. We made it across the road crossing under fire and pushed up the tree line on a move to hotbox. This was one of the crossing spots out of their respawn to return to the objective site and we were able harass their flow of reinforcements before hurling ourselves down the steep bank to the fuel dump. While we were wiped out to a man fairly quickly it definitely had a good bit of success with another group managing to use the distraction to get close and flush the last resistance out with grenades and take and hold the compound. Unfortunately my midcap issues continued so I decided a Sunday roast and a shower were the order of the day and called it a night on a high note.
