Only just signed up to this site today, not sure how this all works so please be patient.

I'm 28 and still serving in the BA. I work a lot with the glock 17 and C8 (L119A2). After some recent range days I thought about trying to improve draw, positions and drills to enhance practice and training for live firing. Online I found the Umarex Glock 17 Gen4 GBB and saw that to have the non two-tone version I had to have some sort of defence (UKARA).

I'm not interested in airsoft or going to airsoft events, I only want it for personal training and practice. I really don't want to "play" and for UKARA you have to go 3 times and I'd literally want to just sit/stand there until the sessions are finished (I know I wouldn't be able to do that). I have seen a different defence called JST - just-cos which is more of a cosplay thing and doesnt require you to actually go to airsoft games. Is there a way I can actually get the Umarex Glock 17 Gen4 as its the closest to the real thing without going to proper airsoft games? Thanks in advance.

In that case go play some airsoft and get registered, 3 games over 2 months isnt that arduous. Plus good practice when the target gets to shoot back.

Worst case scenario is you have a new hobby that'll suck up all your disposable income.
Thanks but I'm definitely certain I dont want to take it up as a hobby, I went once when someone organised it as a troop day out and it wasnt something I'd choose to go do in my free time.😊

Nothing like asking for means to circumvent laws that put the hobby into jeopardy whilst actively not wanting to be a part of said hobby...
If you read it properly, I wasnt trying to get around it, I was asking if there was a different way rather than actually having to go to an airsoft centre and pretend to play soldiers...

What flavour of crayon is your favourite?

Anyway, for what it's worth. The "Just Cos" defence is shaky at best and would unlikely hold up if prosecution were to happen for whatever reason.

Without sounding like more of a dick, you have three options:
Get a legally recognised defence such as UKARA
Get it two-toned without a defence
Don't get a Glock 17 RIF

Red but partial to the occasional green after a long day.

I also wouldn't be stupid enough to take it away from home or even "forgot it was in my car, officer". It would stay locked in my garage as I'dhave no need to take it away from home. I'd rather not actually go to airsoft so think the only viable option is two-toned.

Obviously not going to share that. But I wanted the Umarex Glock 17 as its the most realistic in terms of functions, weight etc.

The short answer is no. The long answer is noooooooooo

Edit: I smell bullshit. A quick Google search shows that dummy rifles for training and drill are bright yellow

When you visit a forum dedicated to airsoft and ask for loopholes to buy a RIF, getting a chip on your shoulder isn't the best way to ask for help.

The defence to buy (or more accurately for a retailer to sell you) a RIF is based on there being a legitimate reason for the realism. While I agree that two-tone looks silly, that opinion is not considered a legitimate reason.

I’m serving and use airsoft as a training aid. Got a whole bunch of glocks etc and they really help to improve with skills and drills as well as overall confidence when handling. Can’t bring myself to buy an L85A3 yet tho!

Word of advice, don’t get a VFC/Umarex G17 Gen 4 if you are running a Radar 1957 holster. It won’t fit, this is because the ends of the slide on the Gen 4 aren’t cut away and the Airsoft version’s slide is slightly bigger than the real steel.

A Umarex G17 Gen 5 Glock will work perfect.

Also isn’t “BA” British Airways??? 🤣
