  • Hiya, having done a search on the forum, you seem to be the AUG guru... :)

I have just landed a boneyard TM AUG and after a tad of fiddling, is back up and running. Barring a couple of screws that hold the hop into the barrel unit, its all good. Unfortunately, the previous owner wasnt very kind and it appears the hop unit is broken just forward of the C clip. So, i'm on the look out for a hop unit....my question is.......any makes to avoid? By the looks of it, its a dedicated hop and doesnt share any other platforms. Or am i wrong on that? the G36 one looked similar but id rather buy one that was going straight in.

Any help greatly appreciated as this is one of my bucket list RIF's (next is a FAL and then a FAMAS---i know, i'm weird...LOL!!).

    :D

Aug's are defiantly one of the oddities of the airsoft world.

Unlike other platforms like the m4 where the gearbox is locked in place and you reference everything to the gearbox, Augs have no reference or fixed points internally. It's more of a relationship.

The only real fixed point is the back of the spacer on the back of the hop. It's that engagement that sets everything else up and it took me a while to work it all out.

The hop position in the upper, Irrelevant. It just needs to move freely.
Magwell plate, irrelevant. It'll self position to the mag, and line up to the hop automatically.
Gearbox position, irrelevant. The hop will set the distance and put load onto the gearbox plate, I actually killed a magwell plate when I first got an AUG thinking shimming a gearbox would be a good idea, it's not. Let the hop spring do all that work.
Even the tappet plate/airnozzle are largely irrelevant. You need just enough space to feed well, but if it's pushing too hard on the hop the tappet spring is weak enough that it seats correctly anyway. And doesn't push the gearbox off the hop.

It's a weird gun to understand. But also very simple and very clever when you do understand it. It's by far my favourite internal design. You can set everything on the gearbox external to the body, even motor height. And the rest just works if you let it work. Most Augs i've looked at second hand that have issues all relate to the hop not moving correctly, and people going round in circles trying to fix a problem they created.

Hop fitted. High torque motor fitted. Sound deadening fitted. It's EVIL...?

Thank you for your guidance. I've printed it out and ingested every word.?

    M4 Gr300 rebuilt...

Holy shiet it's loud. The stock is acting like a resonator!

Might be better after chrono and spring balance!

The GR300S is Magnesium as well.

Very light, Very Strong. It'll fizz if you pop a drop of vinegar on some bare metal.

Ahhhh I always did wonder about it.  I remember thinking back in 2004 when I got it they've sent me a plastic version haha.  So light

Those bodies are by far the best M4 bodies ever produced.

They don't have any of the issues of later production, and I've never heard of one cracking.

The only issue is the bolt release scratching the body.

You should get yours rebuilt. Drop one of those E&C boxes into it with a basic fet and use it to confuse and upset M4 experts who will tell you off for the stock :D

The only thing you can do with magnesium if you want to spruce it up is paint it. I have no idea what they use the blacken it, but I would avoid the ALU black as it may eat into the metal.

    What a day!

Been job hunting, Did a second interview last week, All went well.

Called this morning told I didn't get it.

Then called by another recruiter for a second interview at another company tomorrow. Sorted that out.

Then I got a call back about the job I didn't get... I did get it if I want it. There was a communication error.

I then have to cancel the other interview, Fly across town in rush hour to drop off paperwork for the new job so they can make the offer...

Monday morning, I'll be doing 9-5 as a maintenance engineer in a bacon slicing factory! I can see the company bonuses not been healthy for me!

@Albiscuit did you know that the name ‘vegetarian’ is actually an old Northern Europe word ?

Roughly translates as ‘shit at hunting’ !

Likely so, but then thanks to tesco we pretty much all are! :P

My new lapping paste arrived :D

Stuff seems legit. And it's easy to clean up been water based.

Been rodding a barrel all evening and the thing is gleaming internally!

Went out Saturday, Oh my the G3 is shooting well.

2 confirmed kills at 65m. Both went down to a single aimed shot on 0.3's. Felt like a sniper.

Spent a few hours on the air rifle range this evening with the G3. Scope is set, Was happily plinking logs and the bigger targets on that range... All the PCP airgunners looking at me like an idiot for having a gun that made them have kittens. I may have walked past them all with the gun in a bag, dropped the mags on the table, thrown in a mid cap quick, and slapped the cocking lever. Before leaving it on the table for a minute or two.... Mostly people were just looking down the table expecting all hell to break loose any second.

I then shot it, and they realised it was airsoft lol.

Gun is shooing past the 65 meter mark and well into the 70's. Just needs a few K's bb's passing through it to get the rubber where I want it. Not a single misfeed.

And I may of put a deposit on a PCP air rifle.

Feeling Sexual.. Found a scope on ebay, Won auction, for a surprising low price.

    G3 with period glass baby!

Finally got pictures of the G3 in wood done! More pictures in the Guns picture thread.

It's not looking too bad :D
I won't be happy till I get a nice scope for it, but that'll be a next year purchase as it'll cost more then the gun has!

That's exactly how I got my G3, went to a skirmish, and it was just sat there looking at me on the shelf.... Picked it up to have a look, and didn't hand it over to the other guy who wanted a look... It went on the counter instead!

Wood kit for the G3 ordered :D

Tankfest was good, but the traders were a little generic. Epic militaria were the only ones with a well catered for stand.

Got me a German 1980's M1 helmet, And a new pair of Altbergs as well :D

It was just a sea of cheap gear, Loads of it was all the same. It's like they took gear to sell to kids rather than to people that want nice gear.

There were some bargains, The son got an osprey Mk4 for £20 without plates. And my Altbergs are new condition for £45. We would of paid the same price + postage online so it's a minor saving.

There were some tiedye T-shirts for sale.

You know exactly what I mean tho, It would be nice to see someone take the initiative and take decent gear priced to sell.

My hands down favourite stall was the shooting range. Imagine 4  £50 blue two tone Mp5's. Chained to a 5meter shooting range, With a couple of steel targets at the bottom... No prizes, no take away target paper. Literally here's a mid cap, Shoot that way, £5 please! and the stall was rammed. That stall was just printing money.

Unfortunately I know exactly what you mean , did you visit a stall where the guy behind the counter was a skinny ass black haired Gandalf looking mo fo ?

There was one on the compound corner selling spent brass like it was gold.

He was like a Gypsy Gandalf, Dirty grubby looking bloke, who probably spends more time sniffing brasso and watching porn than doing any real work.

Most of the brass was bulk purchased as well. Typical junk aimed at 13 year old boys.

Are you tracking on USPS, or Royal Mail / Parcelforce tracking?
Sometimes you get more information from one or the other....

    Both,

I got an update this morning saying it was received in HMRC Langley. So it's taken 4 days just to get from the plane to the building where they scan everything... I suspect the most used bit of equipment in that department is the kettle. It's only a letter sized package!
