Airsoft Vs Milsim - Differences ? Opinions ?

That's the point of real cap mags

To force you to be more trigger disciplined, think more tactically & over all be more cohesive within your specified teams

But even bring conservative with ammunition using real caps isn't real for the reasons I stated as it might take 5 shots to make a hit as apposed to one in the real world, which is being "simulated"

Real cap mags are for that extra realism i guess. But i think being that its all toy guns, i might as well treat it like a segal movie and not have to reload for an unrealistic amount of time lol

Going to my first milsim with okto 8 in december and have a longmoor game next week. Personally, i dont enjoy haphazard nature of a skirmish. I want an objective. Still, its toy guns, and choice.

Ultimately it comes down to whatever floats your boat. Some may sneer at milsimers (SAS wannabees, etc) but their having fun doing what they are doing, same as people who just enjoy skirmish games. I do a bit of both and enjoy them for what they are. As to folks paying ridiculous money for kit, it's their money. You wouldn't laugh at someone buying a BMW over a Kia.

I'm a Stirling Milsim player.

" I think you've been listening too much to people who haven't really played milsim games " I think thats a bit harsh considering you have no idea the games I visit. I have been playing Stirling milisms for about 4 years.
My post wasn't aimed at you, it was intended for ImTriggerhappy, who I quoted, but didn't 'quote' using forum tags. I haven't actually watched the video yet, youtube is blocked on my internet connection here.

To me Milsim seems just another kind of live-action-role-play, featuring soldiers not wizards and elves. Lots prefer it as to them it feels like playing airsoft on 'hard-mode' (although to me it just seems more complicated, replacing action with objectives, the act of shooting someone is no harder), or people find the fantasy of being a soldier fills the gap of enjoyment in simply shooting each other playing standard airsoft skirmishing.

I'm geeky enough to have friends playing various kinds of LARP, so don't look down on anyone simply for playing it. I do however find the common sense of airsofting superiority people assume from it (back to the sense of playing airsoft on hard-mode), and embittered ex-servicemen acting/treated like celebrities very very very amusing.

Not my cup of tea, but no LARP is, i'm no more able to keep a straight face when being told a milsim scenario than i can being told which castle full of demons the wizard needs to get the ancient rune to.

I like games where there's an ammo limit and where the sides wear different camo as playing spot the band is not my favourite game. Although I normally play skirmishes as they easy to go to at the last minute. I've only played milsim type games run by Airborne Airsoft but I was really concerned that everyone would be really snotty about what you are wearing which wasn't the case.

The first day I played there all our kit was in these buildings(each team had a building) so as I left I said bye to the guys on my way out and pretty much everyone came up to me and shook my hand and we exchanged "well played" etc. - One thing to note was we were massively outnumbered and although we held our own for most of the day we eventually lost. It was nice to see no one got salty about it and saw it as nothing more than a game.

Personally I'd always want to play on the rebel side as most games i've seen advertised have one side in Multicam/MTP and I don't have any interest in that when there's lots of interesting camos on the market. I'll probably have a look at a weekend event at some point, I just wonder if people will start getting a bit funny as most players, myself included can get a bit funny by late afternoon on a single days skirmish as they get tired.

For me personally, I'm looking forward to my first milsim event in december :) I'm an ex serviceman but I'm not doing it to hark back to the 'good old days' (great memories but some really bad ones aswell)

For me, its a change from skirmish days. Its a chance to meet new people & possibly new friendships, yes it's playing pretend soldiers at pretend objectives but how many of us do get immeresed in a days pew pew pewing lol

Above all, it's the enjoyment, challenges & socialising which I don't get much being a lone parent as my kids come first

We tend to factor in an MTP equipped force because so many players wear it and we try to be as inclusive as possible.

However, we agree, there are so many interesting camos out there.

Next game, we also have DPM, Flecktarn and most of the Russian camos represented.

Because people often conserve energy and arent playing flat out like they often do at a skirmish, people tend to be chilled and good natured at our games. We inject a fair amount of tongue-in-cheek humour so people dont get too up themselves and we only play for maximum 8 hours each day.

Personally I'd always want to play on the rebel side as most games i've seen advertised have one side in Multicam/MTP and I don't have any interest in that when there's lots of interesting camos on the market. I think there has been some really great points raised here, I guess I can throw in my 2p!

I think ammo limits are important but also agree that 30rd mags really don't work, I think 60/80s are perfect as it is enough to make you worry about trigger discipline but enough o put a few shots at a target. After firing some real steel recently it was mad being a noob and knowing you can hit a target at 400 yards with one bullet takes the need for more rounds away in a real steel sense.

I don't believe everyone needs to be in crye or gucci kit, head to food to be a good milsim player to be fair I'm not fussed what people wear as long as they fit in with the unit or team " eg everyone in mulitcam " and have the correct kit to operate correctly in the scenario given.

There are some really pretentious / Walter Mittys in the milsim scene you just have to smile and walk away from them. Ive heard everything from Ex SAS to serving Para lol anyway.....

I do play Stirling Airsoft milsims as many have mentioned they run some of the strictest and most testing events in the UK. The Valley in Nov is a very testing environment where on a hard routine weekend you need everything on your back for your entire weekend. But It's one of the most rewarding things I have done esp when it was -5 and pitch black at 3:30pm being fit an able to move with weight on your back is essential. I've seen some bad accidents and people also turn up totally unprepared and risk hyperthermia and injury.

Milsim is not just acting and role play, Its not just what kit you have. But how you approach everything from ground movement, communication and tactical movements during any exercise from room clearing or detaining suspects to vehicle entry . Its not a spray and pray attitude running round willy nilly..but a calculated and organised individual that on the ground makes you an efficient and reliable subject.

Hope that all make sense :)

Think this is what people mean. Suggest you sit in the corner and think about what you said.....

I agree with deebo, i think its seems to be the two differences more between the have a laugh skirmish and they take it too seriouse milsimmer. I just want middle ground, i want the organised feel of milsim but to still be smiling and having fun. If i wanted to be so hardcore i felt like i was in the army or to the point where i feel like im on an sas training ground id go join the forces.

Why does it have to matter how or why you do what you do? If someone takes what they do more seriously why are they wrong/right?

We're all running around the woods with toy guns FFS.

Yes but isnt this the point. The OP describes the Stirling/Tier 1 approach which is fine if that is what you want.

Not everybody wants that, there are other organisers who cater for the different flavours, right through to milsim light and the more object focussed skirmishes.

The problems occur when people become so locked on, with their particular milsim flavour of choice, that they cant see anothers point of view.

Decide what flavour you want, play with whom you want and just accept that not everybody likes what you like.

Im not saying it is wrong or right, just that i think its the more overly serious approch that puts some off trying milsims. Almost like thier needs to be an inbetween the two levels of play for the less seriouse milsimmer whanting a more serious skirmish.

The content isnt why i said it lozart just the last post. Said about people going to far into it and then kinda a 'be all you can be' advert thrown in. Made me lol
